In Israel, the attack perpetrated by Hamas on October 7, 2023, was experienced as an operation of annihilation and sent shock waves through the local community. Since then, Israeli society has rallied behind its armed forces and supported the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip. But this unity could prove short-lived. The political and social divisions observed during the recent attempt to reform the judicial system will undoubtedly be aggravated by the current crisis.

Israel's New Wretched Republic
2019
On Tuesday, the Second Republic of Israel was born. It will be different from its predecessor. The First Republic chalked up impressive achievements, accompanied by lies and deceptions. The Second Republic will dispense with any pretense. The new Israel will no longer use disguises. When the ninth Israeli prime minister puts together his fifth government, Israel will look different. With victory at hand and growing confidence, Binyamin Netanyahu will be able to declare the advent of the Second Republic, formed in his image. Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's. It will be forbidden to support a boycott of Israel. Ben-Gurion Airport will be even more closed to critics of the regime.

Can Israeli Democracy Withstand Netanyahu? From April 2019 to March 2020, Israelis have had to vote three times for their representatives sitting in the Knesset. Provoked by the political class’s inability to agree on a new government, this unprecedented voting cycle ended with the agreement brokered between Benny Gantz and Benyamin Netanyahou. The latter, although weakened by the series of events, remains Prime minister. His ongoing leadership is remarkable, but his brutal handling of politics might leave a trace.

Gulf Reaction to Israeli Annexation Plans
The Israeli Prime Minister's plan to effectively annex parts of the occupied West Bank has created a major uproar in the international community and media. While almost the entire world strongly opposes Israeli unilateral actions, which will have severe security ramifications possibly leading to a new intifada, the reaction of the Gulf Arab states remains a great puzzle. According to an agreement with his coalition partner Benny Gantz, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was granted the right to proceed with the process of annexation as early as July 1. Netanyahu has said the plan is \"not annexation,\" claiming that it aims to apply Israeli sovereignty (law) to parts of the West Bank. Reportedly, this may include almost 30 percent of the West Bank with roughly 130 heavily fortified colonies, dozens of satellite outposts and other areas, which are, in Netanyahu's view, important for the country's \"security, heritage and future.\"

NSO Group had come to international attention in July 2021, when the UK newspaper The Guardian and 16 other media organizations released the results of the \"Pegasus Pro- Ş ject,\" a ground-breaking investigation into the global use of NSO's hacking software, coordinated by Forbidden Stories, a consortium of journalists whose mission is to investigate murdered, imprisoned or threatened journalists. According to The Guardian article written by Stephanie Kirchgaessner and other reporters, a leak revealed the phone numbers of over 50,000 people considered as people of interest to NSO Group clients. The Guardian's report notes that the NSO Group released a statement through its lawyers in response to the investigation, saying that it \"sells only to military, law enforcement and intelligence agencies in 40 unnamed countries, and says it rigorously vets its customers' human rights records before allowing them to use its spy tools. According to another article, published in November by Kirchgaessner in The Guardian, the ESET report revealed new information about socalled \"watering hole attacks.\"

Binyamin Netanyahu's Re-Election Underlines Israel's Apartheid Reality
2019
The results of Israel's elections reveal a stark reality: Not only will Binyamin Netanyahu almost inevitably form a coalition government even further to the right than the one he already heads, but the country's Jewish electorate has given its resounding endorsement to the policies for which he stands. The bloc led by Benny Gantz hardly offered much of a difference. Gantz's own electoral campaign prominently featured a series of videos called Only the Strong Survive, which gloated over how many Palestinians the former army chief of staff had killed and how proud he was to have bombed parts of Gaza back to the Stone Age.
