United Kingdom : Vaughan Gething in Uganda to mark 10 years of Wales for Africa
As part of the celebrations to mark ten years of the Wales for Africa programme, Health Secretary Vaughan Gething is in Uganda to see some of the projects and meet some of the people who have benefitted from the successful scheme. Bumayoka Primary Schools mini hydropower project which uses equipment donated by the Welsh charity PONT to provide lighting for the school after dark. He will switch on new state of the art LED lights donated by Welsh firm Sedna Lighting
United Kingdom : Wales is first nation in UK to pass laws on play, Deputy Minister tells Scotland
He will be speaking at the Four Nations Play Policy Symposium in Scotland bringing together representatives of all the governments of the UK. The Deputy Minister will tell delegates that Wales is leading on this agenda through legislating to improve the provision of play opportunities. The first part of the existing legislation required local authorities to assess the sufficiency of play opportunities for children in their areas. This was completed last year and they have received Pounds 1.25m to support them in increasing play opportunities during this financial year.

It is an honour to be appointed to this role and have the opportunity to make a positive difference to the lives of the most vulnerable communities in Wales. Tackling poverty is central to the point and purpose of the Welsh Government. I am delighted to be taking up this post.
