A typology of Chinese “archives”
This paper reports on a study aimed at providing a structure for the various types of “archives” in China. As the concept of “archives” in China has Chinese characteristics (hence the quotation marks), so is the practice in China that is relevant to the Chinese “archives.” Developing a typology of Chinese “archives,” therefore, did not strive to tease out the logics between and among these types, but rather focused on outlining their existence in their originating environment. The typology was developed using the perspective of historical development, i.e., presenting the various types of archives along with the particular times and/or spaces in which they existed and functioned. Representative features were summarized based on the practices associated with these archives, i.e., the time requirement for internal archival transfer, the broad coverage of archives and the flexible criteria for archives categorization. These features differ from those in other countries and are related to the requirements of Chinese archival management. It is hoped that this presentation of the typology of Chinese “archives” will provide readers outside of China an informative introduction and a general understanding of archival practices in China, and will provide a foundation for comparative studies between China and other countries.
The future of open data
\"The Future of Open Data flows from a multi-year Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Partnership Grant project that set out to explore open government geospatial data from an interdisciplinary perspective. Researchers on the grant adopted a critical social science perspective grounded in the imperative that the research should be relevant to government and civil society partners in the field. This book builds on the knowledge developed during the course of the grant and asks the question, \"What is the future of open data?\" The contributors' insights into the future of open data combine observations from five years of research about the Canadian open data community with a critical perspective on what could and should happen as open data efforts evolve. Each of the chapters in this book addresses different issues and each is grounded in distinct disciplinary or interdisciplinary perspectives. The opening chapter reflects on the origins of open data in Canada and how it has progressed to the present date, taking into account how the Indigenous data sovereignty movement intersects with open data. A series of chapters address some of the pitfalls and opportunities of open data and consider how the changing data context may impact sources of open data, limits on open data, and even liability for open data. Another group of chapters considers new landscapes for open data, including open data in the global South, the data priorities of local governments, and the emerging context for rural open data.\"-- Provided by publisher

Muallim İsmail Hakkı Bey’in Devlet Arşivlerindeki Defterlerinde Kayıtlı Operetleri Üzerine Bir İnceleme
Tanzimat sonrasında Türk müziğinin batılı müzik formları ve yapılarıyla etkileşime girdiği bilinmektedir. Bu dönemde bazı besteciler, batı müziği unsurlarını geleneksel müziğimizle harmanlayarak çeşitli denemeler yapmıştır. Bu bestecilerden biri de M. İsmail Hakkı Bey’dir. Kendisinin çok farklı türlerde besteleri olduğu bilinmektedir. Bu çalışmada, e-Devlet sistemi üzerinden Devlet Arşivleri Başkanlığı'na ait arşive erişilmiş ve İsmail Hakkı Bey’e ait olduğu belirlenen operetler tespit edilerek tasnif edilmiştir. Araştırmada belgesel tarama yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Kaynaklarda, İsmail Hakkı Bey’in hangi operetleri bestelediği ve kaç adet olduğu konusunda belirsizlikler bulunmaktadır Bu çalışma, bu konudaki eksiklikleri gidermeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma sonucunda İsmail Hakkı Bey’in arşive aktarılan defterlerindeki operetlerin, arşivde yazılı künyelerde sayfa sayısı bakımından uyuşmadığı belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca hangi operetlerde güfte dağılımı olduğu, operetlerin kaç perde olduğu ve operetlerin nüsha sayıları gibi veriler de incelenmiştir.
