Alexander Gray, 39, had the four-year-old Peugeot 307 dealer- serviced, repaired and re-registered in his wife Anne's name. Another clerk noticed no cheque had been received and Gray was interviewed by anticorruption officers. He tried to claim his wife had bought the car for pounds 2400 at auctions in Livingston. Gray was interviewed and confessed to both crimes last year, handing back the pounds 1200 and keys to the Peugeot.
