Managing Editor's Comments
Greetings from North Korean Review. The year 2018 was eventful, in terms of North Korea on the international stage. A flurry of summits in the beginning of the year tapered off into a lull that failed to meet the hopes of many who wanted to see a long overdue change in the status quo. While that breakthrough did not come in 2018, something that was likely unsurprising to our readers, I think we can all agree there was much to examine, assess, and discuss
The Excursion: Greetings
For the bicentenary special issue devoted to The Excursion, I am indebted to Tom Duggett, who proposed it and whose expertise I have come to trust from his Gothic Romanticism: Architecture, Politics, and Literary Form (Palgrave Macmillan), which won the rare MLA Independent Scholar award, and to Jacob Risinger (Harvard) whose MLA session on The Excursion began this celebratory year with papers by Duggett, Seamus Perry, and Kenneth Johnston, all in this issue. To all the authors, my boundless gratitude; their essays explain, enrich, refine, provoke, extend, and, I hope, will inspire more essays fulfilling the possibilities these have initiated: the textual (Bushell), technical (Gravil), analytical and interpretive (O'Neill, Farina, Johnston, Galperin), ancient sources (Abbott, Chicas, Simmons), contemporary contexts (Perry, Stabler, Bailey, Duggett), religious background (Brantley), Victorian influence (Ryan), and the material book (Duff). The small, blue, inexpensive book with this intriguing title fit in my backpack and set me off from the other muddy boots in my classes.
