\"In ancient times, warriors threw spears or fired arrows from bows. Today soldiers shoot bullets from machine guns that fire up to 3,000 times a minute. Follow the steps in the process that led from spears and cannonballs to armor-piercing rockets and missiles that can strike targets on the other side of the world.\"-- Provided by publisher.

2022
This book gives you an in-depth look into the critical function of interference shielding for onboard radar of anti-aircraft missile systems. Intended for radar engineers and technicians specializing in anti-aircraft defense, the book reviews today's military and geo-political threats, helps you understand the functional needs of the various radar and anti-missile systems to meet those threats, and synthesizes considerations for devising practical and effective protection against interferences that affect the homing heads of anti-aircraft guided missiles. Three problematic interferences are presented and discussed in detail: polarization interference; interference to the sidelobe of onboard antennas; and interference from two points in space, including interference reflected from the earth (water) surface. The book covers the basic principles of radiolocation, including monopulse radars, and gives insight into the fundamental functional units of anti-aircraft missiles and surface-to-air missile systems. The book presents guidance methods, systems of direction finding, problems on firing over the horizon, and questions of accuracy and resolution - all important for better addressing solutions of interference shielding.
Differential game theory with applications to missiles and autonomous systems guidance
2017
Differential Game Theory with Applications to Missiles and Autonomous Systems explains the use of differential game theory in autonomous guidance and control systems. The book begins with an introduction to the basic principles before considering optimum control and game theory. Two-party and multi-party game theory and guidance are then covered and, finally, the theory is demonstrated through simulation examples and models and the simulation results are discussed. Recent developments in the area of guidance and autonomous systems are also presented. Key features: - Presents new developments and how they relate to established control systems knowledge. - Demonstrates the theory through simulation examples and models. - Covers two-party and multi-party game theory and guidance. - Accompanied by a website hosting MATLAB® code. The book is essential reading for researchers and practitioners in the aerospace and defence industries as well as graduate students in aerospace engineering.
A girl's guide to missiles : growing up in America's secret desert
\"The China Lake missile range is located in a huge stretch of the Mojave Desert, about the size of the state of Delaware. It was created during the Second World War, and has always been shrouded in secrecy. But people who make missiles and other weapons are regular working people, with domestic routines and everyday dilemmas, and four of them were Karen Piper's parents, her sister, and--when she needed summer jobs--herself\"--Provided by publisher.
Cryptic concrete : a subterranean journey into Cold War Germany
2018
Cryptic Concrete explores bunkered sites in Cold War Germany in order to understand the inner workings of the Cold War state.
* A scholarly work that suggests a reassessment of the history of geo- and bio-politics
* Attempts to understand the material architecture that was designed to protect and take life in nuclear war
* Zooms in on two types of structures - the nuclear bunker and the atomic missile silo
* Analyzes a broad range of sources through the lens of critical theory and argues for an appreciation of the two subterranean structures' complementary nature
A Typical Failure Mode and Effects Analysis for EMA Used for UAV and Guided Missile
2021
Scout and strike UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) is one of the important products of latest UAV technology, which is becoming prevalent in modern war. The scout and strike UAV can complete scout tasks efficiently and hit the target with the guided missile accurately. And also the military use of scout and strike UAV brings low casualty. It attracts more and more attention. EMA is the actuator of the UAV and the guided missile. It controls the control surface, rotation of which determines the flight attitude, exerting heavy influence on the flight safety. Failure mode and effects analysis is an important tool for EMA (Electronic Mechanical Actuator) design, for the simple reason that it helps to assess EMA reliability, maintainability and safety. In this paper, a typical failure mode and effects analysis is conducted with EMA as the research object. EMA system definition and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) basic principle are presented. And then the detailed analysis is given based on some certain rules and the FMEA table illustrates the analysis. To summarize, the failure mode and effects analysis offers reference for EMA design. With it, the weak part in the design can be found and some potential risks can be eliminated in early stages of EMA design.

2019
The morphing aircraft can improve the flight performance of hypersonic vehicles by satisfying the flight requirements of large airspace and large velocity field. In this paper, for the hypersonic variable span missile, the dynamic model and aerodynamic model are established on the variable span characteristic. The adaptive dynamic surface control back-stepping method is used to establish the integrated guidance and control (IGC) with terminal angular constraint in the dive phase of the hypersonic variable span missile. The span variety is used to assist the lift control to achieve fast and stable control for the centroid motion. The simulation results demonstrate that the feasibility and robustness of the IGC method of the hypersonic variable span missile is better than the invariable span.

Position Deployment Optimization of Maneuvering Conventional Missile Based on Improved Whale Optimization Algorithm
2022
To reasonably allocate mobile conventional missile battle positions and improve the survivability and combat effectiveness of the missile weapon system, a missile position deployment optimization design model based on Mixed-Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) is established. First, for the multilevel position network, an optimization model with the goal of maximizing the viability is established, and a two-stage solution method is proposed. Second, the whale optimization algorithm (WOA) is improved, and the convergence factor which changes nonlinearly with the number of evolution is introduced to coordinate the local development and global search ability of the algorithm. The diversity mutation operation is carried out on the optimal individual to reduce the probability of premature convergence of the algorithm, and the improved whale algorithm is used to solve the optimization model. Finally, the performance of the improved algorithm is verified by example analysis and simulation experiments, which provides a reference for the deployment mode of mobile missile positions.
