A DEVELOPMENTAL-FORENSIC ANALYSIS OF MICHAEL MYERS IN THE 1973 MOVIE HALLOWEEN
by
Faccini, Lino
in
Halloween
2017
Faccini examines the information presented about the Michael Myers in the 1973 movie, Halloween, and how a specific developmental trauma may have \"shaped\" his child and adult development. The movie opens up with the young Myers stalking around his family house until he finally murders his sister Judith, and then is found by his parents and police outside of their home after the murder. The viewer is both shocked that a six-year-old child could commit such a murder on Halloween, and also perplexed regarding how this could occur. It is proposed that he may have suffered a past trauma where he both witnessed his biological father kill his family (or daughters) on Halloween, and survived the onslaught. A sequelae of the trauma could include such symptoms of mutism, dissociation and him coping with the trauma by identifying with the aggressor, namely his homicidal father. The possibility of being a survivor of a familicide, the killing of one's family, would mean that he may subsequently have been placed with a foster family, which may be the family at the beginning of the movie.
