Waiting for Tom Hanks
\"Romantic-comedy-obsessed Annie Cassidy dreams of being the next Nora Ephron. She spends her days writing internet content, rewatching Sleepless in Seattle, and waiting for her movie-perfect meet cute. If she could just find her own Tom Hanks--a man who's sweet, sensitive, and possibly owns a houseboat--her problems would disappear and her life would be perfect. But Tom Hanks is nowhere in sight. When a movie starts filming in her neighborhood and Annie gets a job on set, it seems like a sign. Then Annie meets the lead actor, Drew Danforth, a cocky prankster who couldn't be less like Tom Hanks if he tried. Their meet-cute is more of a meet annoying, but soon Annie finds herself sharing some classic rom-com moments with Drew. Her Tom Hanks can't be an actor who's leaving town in a matter of days...can he? Drew may not be what she imagined, but Annie soon learns that real life doesn't always go according to script\"-- Provided by publisher.
David S. Pumpkins returns to SNL

There's No Dropping the Ball (On Purpose) in Baseball
Candaele asserts that my mother Helen Callaghan and my Aunt Margaret Callaghan Maxwell played in the All- American Girls Professional Baseball League and the documentary I produced on their years playing pro ball--also titled A League of Their Own--was the basis for the Columbia Pictures film that starred Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, and Madonna. I wrote the story for the feature film. Through the years I've talked to many girls and young women about the movie. Their love for the film derives from its portrayal of talented female athletes who are strong, competitive and as dedicated to their sport as any male professional. From my random sampling of comments, those who think Dottie dropped the ball on purpose as an act of sisterly love far outnumber those who disagree. No one has, or ever will, play the game perfectly. In fact, a game that could theoretically be played perfectly would soon become boring. Thoughtful professional athletes appreciate this fact, while most fans do not.
Teaching Clarinet
Eighty-third in a series of articles using excerpts from a teaching method in progress by the Professor of Music at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music TRANSPOSITION, PART 2 It is appropriate to follow up on \"Transposition, Part 1\" (Dec. 2020) with a sequel, even though this moves from my usual realm of beginning and intermediate students toward advanced and professional levels. Having studied piano as a child, the marooned clarinetist is fluent in reading bass clef with D on the middle line, affording an easy way to transpose from viola clef by reading the bass clef an octave higher and adding two sharps to the key signature. [...]the island had plenty of food, water and shelter, but no AC, unfortunately.) 2Transposing from concert pitch (C) to Clarinet in A Using the six Telemann Canonic Sonatas as an example, Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 6 are in friendly keys for clarinet in Bí (with the small exception of the third movement of No. 3 ending in A major rather than A minor). If one chooses that solution, I recommend transposing the whole movement to Bí clarinet. Since the symphony is always the second half of a program, you can pack up the A clarinet at intermission because the other three movements are all for clarinet in Bí!
KGCFRec: Improving Collaborative Filtering Recommendation with Knowledge Graph
Traditional collaborative filtering (CF)-based recommendation systems are often challenged by data sparsity. The recent research has recognized the potential of integrating new information sources, such as knowledge graphs, to address this issue. However, a common drawback is the neglect of the interplay between user–item interaction data and knowledge graph information, resulting in insufficient model performance due to coarse-grained feature fusion. To bridge this gap, in this paper, we propose a novel graph neural network (GNN) model called KGCFRec, which leverages both Knowledge Graph and user–item Collaborative Filtering information for an enhanced Recommender system. KGCFRec employs a dual-channel information propagation and aggregation mechanism to generate distinct representations for the collaborative knowledge graph and the user–item interaction graph. This is followed by an attention mechanism that adaptively fuses the knowledge graph with collaborative information, thereby refining the representations and narrowing the gap between them. The experiments conducted on three real-world datasets demonstrate that KGCFRec outperforms state-of-the-art methods. These promising results underscore the capability of KGCFRec to enhance recommendation accuracy by integrating knowledge graph information.
Presence and Physiovalence: Artful Resistance against the Neoliberal Digitization of Our Lives
The tendency to reduce the movements of performers in media art to data results in a flattening of identities and makes the performers’ essence seemingly insignificant. Two case studies showcase what might be lost through datafication, even as they resist it: Lucinda Childs “walking” in Bach 6 Solo by Robert Wilson, and Michael Jackson standing still at the start of his 1993 Super Bowl Halftime show. The desire to detach the body from aesthetic significance can be traced back to America’s historical racism.
