Killing trees to save them
The striking face, striped antennae, legs and body of an Asian longhorn beetle is on the cover of \"Beetle Busters: A Rogue Insect and the People Who Track It,\" written by [Loree Griffin Burns] with photographs by [Ellen Harasimowicz]. The book, published Oct. 7, is the latest in the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt \"Scientists in the Field\" series. Tens of thousands of new trees, chosen for their resistance to ALBs, have been planted in the place of the suddenly vacant spaces, Burns writes. [Mike Bohne] is quoted in \"Beetle Busters\" as predicting \"In thirty years, Worcester will have a very beautiful, probably crown jewel, urban forest.\" \"I think it's a really difficult question,\" she said. \"I think if the goal is to eradicate the beetle from Worcester, cutting the trees is the only solution ... I would be heartbroken if the trees on my property were cut down. But if that's the goal, there's no other choice. I've come to think in Worcester we will be successful. The question becomes, will it show up in other places?\"

Trip is a labor of love
The group, including [Steve Walton], 18; his sister Christina L. Walton, 17; their mother, Maria P. Walton; along with her friends Deborah Wenger and Ellen Harasimowicz, and their three children, went to Guadalupe, Mexico, about 10 miles from Juarez, which borders the United States. A spiritual woman, Mrs. Walton in 2003 decided she would like to take part in some type of missionary work. She didn't know exactly what she would do, but a contact at St. Theresa's gave her the name of someone to call at the Whitinsville Christian Academy in Whitinsville, and that person told her about the Tapestries of Life Ministries, based in Fabens, Texas.
