Kantian and Consequentialist Ethics: The Gap Can Be Bridged
Richard Hare argues that the fundamental assumptions of Kant's ethical system should have led Kant to utilitarianism, had Kant not confused a norm's generality with its universality, and hence adopted rigorist, deontological norms. Several authors, including Jens Timmermann, have argued contra Hare that the gap between Kantian and utilitarian/consequentialist ethics is fundamental and cannot be bridged. This article shows that Timmermann's claims rely on a systematic failure to separate normative and metaethical aspects of each view, and that Hare's attempt to bridge the gap between Kantian and consequentialist ethics is immune to Timmermann's criticisms. Furthermore, the term \"Kantian ethics\" is often misleading, and should typically be qualified as either \"Kantian rationalism\" or \"Kantian deontology\" in order to avoid confusions of the sort Timmermann falls into.
Homage to Hare: Ecumenism and the Frege‐Geach Problem
The Frege-Geach problem is probably the most serious worry for the prospects of any kind of metaethical expressivism. In a recent article, Ridge suggests that a new version of expressivism, a view he calls ecumenical expressivism, can avoid the Frege-Geach problem. In contrast to pure expressivism, ecumenical expressivism is the view that moral utterances function to express not only desire-like states of mind but also beliefs with propositional content. Whereas pure expressivists' solutions to the Frege-Geach problem usually have rested on some kind of \"logic of attitudes,\" Ridge argues that it is the expressed belief in the ecumenical machinery that holds the key. Here, Eriksson argues that Ridge's solution is flawed. However, this does not mean that every form of ecumenical expressivism is a failure. Ridge briefly contrasts his view with the kind of view Hare advanced but argues that Hare cannot make use of the ecumenical machinery. Not only is an ecumenical reading of Hare very plausible and something that establishes him as an important forerunner of today's ecumenical trend in metaethics, but, more important, it offers guidance where Ridge goes wrong. It solves the Frege-Geach problem in a way that meets the criticism of more standard solutions head-on, and it seems to be able to handle the most pressing problems for ecumenical theories.
Toward an Interpretation of the Ethics of Consequences in Light of a Citizenship Project/Aportes para una interpretacion de la etica de las consecuencias en vista de un proyecto de ciudadania/ Contribuicoes que ajudam na interpretacao das implicacoes da etica das consequencias em face de um projeto de cidadania
This article aims to provide a basis for interpreting the ethics of consequences from the perspectives of Richard Hare, Stephen Toulmin, and G. W F. Hegel. This exercise will serve as a call for interdisciplinary dialogue that would contribute to a systematic overview of the ethics of consequences based on reason and Recognition. Methodologically, the work is a result of qualitative interpretation and archival research. The article takes an interdisciplinary approach toward the subject, seeking to contribute conceptually to a possible interpretation of the ethics of consequence.

Sorting out ethics
R. M. Hare, one of the most influential moral philosophers of the twentieth century, presents a definitive summary of his fundamental views on ethics, incorporating a critical taxonomy of rival ethical theories. Sorting Out Ethics is a characteristically lucid and lively guide to the subject and Hare's place in it.
Man at centre of damning report speaks out
\"CompassPoint had envisioned my role to be the 'change leader' and I was excited about the opportunity to make positive change within my community,\" [Richard Hare] said. He said bringing in the CompassPoint report would have diminished the influence of that \"club,\" whose supposed members he never names in his e-mail, by taking control of the city away from \"individual career councillors\" and putting it in the hands of council as a whole. \"He stated 'the shockwaves of this decision will be felt all over the river, '\" Hare recalled. \"When asked what he meant, he responded 'you know what I mean. '\"
Mayor's excuse not acceptable; Letter to the editor
To the best of my recollection, I don't know [Richard Hare] but I do know that no person should be treated with this attitude of disdain. Where was councillor Malley's voice on this issue, he should know all about being fired.
