in
Higgins, Jim
2008
\"What we've been hearing from a large number of people, or the victims of Opes Prime, was that they needed assistance seeking redress both from Opes Prime and the ANZ Bank,\" he said. \"A number have decided to fund those actions themselves and so you'll see a ... mixed litigation against the ANZ and Opes Prime in respect to this matter.\" \"One thing is for certain - there will be a series of very significant pieces of litigation that will bring Opes Prime and the ANZ Bank to account in this matter.\"

Heartbroken family warns of farm dangers
by
Sheehan, Aideen
in
Higgins, Jim
2014
With 27 deaths on Irish farms already this year including five children, [James Higgins]' father Padraig has urged other families to learn from the tragedy that \"a farmyard is not a playground\". \"Santa hasn't come for James since. There's a space at the table. There's always a candle lit at the table for Christmas, where James would be sitting,\" he said. \"All our little lads used to come out and feed calves and it was great but we didn't see the danger. An accident happens in a split second and it's too late then. People have to be aware of what's left behind. A farmyard is not a playground.\"

You could call him a five-sport competitor. Other than playing football for Oak Hill, he also drove a race car at Oxford Plains Raceway. There, they knew him as Spanky. Bowling was his second love. He rolled two 300 perfect games as a member of the Odd Couples League at Sparetime Recreation. He threw darts in the Central Maine Dart League and shot pool out of many clubs in the local area.

Southern W.Va. Robotics Club branches out
by
Neff, Cody
in
Higgins, Jim
2014
There's a robotic uprising going on in southern West Virginia. The robots aren't rampaging on their own. No, they're in the hands of schoolchildren and the robots aren't rallying for freedom. They're competing for glory. The president of the Southern West Virginia Robotics Club said the club started from a desire to give kids something to do that wasn't sports. \"That's the middle level, he said. \"We have software that programs the robot brain. Everything the robots are built with are made from LEGOs. That's a middle-school age group. I think the age limit is from 8-14. \"Next is the First Robotics Competition, he said. \"That's more like an Erector set. The robot has steel parts. The motors are a lot more powerful. We use the same robot brain but the programming language is a lot more complicated. It's like C BASIC language. The robot designs are more heavy-duty. The competitions are more intense.

Outgoing MEP Higgins hits out at naive FG poll strategy
2014
OUTGOING Fine Gael MEP Jim Higgins has launched a scathing attack against the party over it's \"major political mistakes\", calling it naive in the way it handled the run-up to the elections. Mr Higgins, who is almost certain to lose his seat, also criticised the party's election strategy as \"absolute and utter lunacy\". If I see that Fine Gael MEPs are out in the European Parliament telling everyone that everything is fine and rosy in the Irish household, I will be very quick to tackle them on that and point out that it isn't true, that I would like if it was true, but we need to do certain things to change that,\" he added. Mr Flanagan said the first thing he would concentrate on was opening a trading bloc which would allow farmers to access the British market. Sinn Fein's Matt Carthy is on course to take the second seat in the four-seater constituency with Fine Gael's Mairead McGuinness in third position. The battle for the final seat continues between Independent Marian Harkin and Fianna Fail's Pat 'The Cope'Gallagher.

Ming's hemp suit steals show as proverbial dogfight awaited
by
Sheridan, Kathy
in
Higgins, Jim
2014
He paid [Jim Higgins] a generous tribute, thanking him for his service to party and country, even while Higgins was outside insisting he would be \"okay\" as there were \"no proper tallies out\". Then again, the expected \"solid transfer\" from Labour's Lorraine Higgins wasn't happening, he said. About half her vote was from \"plumpers\" (just the single vote). The other half was \"definitely\" a vote for the \"sisters\" (other women). Refreshingly, Rnn Mullen was telling anyone who asked that he hadn't \"a snowball's chance in hell\" of winning a seat. Bratty teens Meanwhile, Enda restated much-repeated lines in defence of his governance while having a swipe at the groups - Independent and Sinn Finers - who are going to have to make \"difficult decisions\" in their new-found positions of authority. It was like listening to a despairing father of bratty teens who prays he'll live long enough to see them being tortured by bratty teens of their own. A definite \"could happen\" then. Swiftly followed by a definite \"no thanks\" from Gerry Adams, who said the only common ground between FG and SF was Mayo for the All-Ireland, before acceding to the woman pleading for a handshake - \"Gerry , I'm from the United States. Will you please shake my hand?\" and later, to the journalist who wanted a selfie with him.
