While he didn't make it out of the qualifying round this weekend, local 12-year-old Rubik's Cube whiz Isaac Wappes still enjoyed his trip to the [Rubik]'s U.S. Open 2007 in Chicago and even learned a few new tricks. The competition, in the lobby of the Chicago Cultural Center, attracted many passers-by and was even mentioned on the \"Today\" show, said Elizabeth Wappes, Isaac's mother. Most of the competitors were 10 to 20 years older than Isaac, and hailed from around the world, including the Netherlands, Canada and Switzerland. Isaac was able to pick up a few techniques from a Dutch competitor who taught him some new cube moves.
