Human Development in Iraq
2013,2012,2011
This systematic evaluation of Iraq's political economy and human development offers a complex and sophisticated analysis of Iraq's recent history. Focusing on the period from 1950 up to the Gulf war in 1990, the book brings an understanding of how development has been shaped or constrained in this much misunderstood country.
The author employs the human development paradigm to link human development and human rights to the analysis of political economy. The resulting scholarship, on income and investment, education and health, the status of women, and human rights, presents a nuanced, balanced - but critical - appraisal of the complex interrelationships between economic growth and development and illustrates the fragility of that development, especially when political institutions fail to keep up with the rapid expansion in human capabilities.
Providing the historical analysis needed to understand Iraq's current political situation, this book will be of great interest to scholars of development studies, Iraq, and political economy.

Iraq-Kuwait Crisis, 1990-1991
1993
This book is a comprehensive documentary and legal record compiled by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) to monitor and archive human rights violations during the Iraqi invasion and occupation of the State of Kuwait (1990–1991). The report provides a systematic analysis of the atrocities committed against the civilian population, based on eyewitness testimonies, field reports, and international monitoring data. It covers a wide range of violations, including arbitrary detention, torture, extrajudicial killings, and the forced disappearance of Kuwaiti citizens and residents (the POWs and missing persons issue). Additionally, the book examines the environmental and economic crimes committed, such as the ignition of oil wells and the systematic looting of public and private property, framed within the context of International Humanitarian Law and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This work serves as a vital historical archive and a legal reference for researchers in international relations, human rights advocacy, and the history of the Arabian Gulf.
Countries in Crisis: Iraq
2008
\"Once Saddam Hussein was removed, some thought a civil war was bound to happen. Usually, democracy helps people express their wishes and come together. Here it was pulling Iraq apart. If this is true, then Iraq’s crisis will end only when the country breaks up. Only time will tell whether this will happen.\" (Countries in Crisis: Iraq) Learn about the background and history of country in crisis Iraq.
