Polyethyleneimine capped bimetallic Au/Pt nanoclusters are a viable fluorescent probe for specific recognition of chlortetracycline among other tetracycline antibiotics
A highly selective method has been developed for the fluorometric determination of chlortetracycline (CTC) among other tetracycline antibiotics (TCs). It is making use of fluorescent Au/Pt nanoclusters (NCs) capped with polyethyleneimine (Au/PtNCs@PEI). The nanoprobe, with a green emission peaking at 512 nm, was synthesized by an environmentally friendly hydrothermal method. The capped NCs have a large Stokes shift (∼150 nm), are insensitive to extreme pH values and high ionic strength, and are excellently photostable under UV irradiation. In the presence of CTC, the fluorescence of the capped NCs is quenched due to aggregation. The effect is also found for tetracycline, oxytetracycline and doxycycline. This shows that sensitive but non-selective detection of such TCs is possible. However, CTC is specifically complexed by Al(III) ions, and this generates a strong fluorescence peaking at 520 nm even though the fluorescence of the capped NCs is fully quenched. Obviously, the effects are caused by CTC only, and this enables CTC to be specifically recognized by an “ on-off-on ” strategy. Fluorescence increases linearly in the 0.5 to 10 μM CTC concentration range, and the limit of detection is 0.35 μM. The method was successfully applied to the determination of CTC in (spiked) milk, and the recoveries suggest that this fluorescent probe is an effective tool for detecting CTC in foodstuff. Graphical abstract Schematic illustration and photographic images of the luminescence quenching response of Au/Pt nanoclusters (Au/PtNCs) toward chlortetracycline (CTC) (from on to off ), and then the recovery upon Al 3+ addition (from off to on ).
Sound and Silence in Peter Jackson’s They Shall Not Grow Old
This roundtable offers four diverse perspectives on Peter Jackson’s innovative and controversial World War I documentary film They Shall Not Grow Old (2018). Jackson’s film breaks the mold of the documentary genre in its manipulation and montage of the visual and audio archives held at the Imperial War Museum in London. Yet he puts his technical virtuosity and resources at the service of a very traditional interpretation of the war, focusing almost entirely on the experience of young Englishmen on the Western Front. Scholars Santanu Das, Susan R. Grayzel, Jessica Meyer, and Catherine Robson offer their reflections on both the gains and losses of Jackson’s paradoxical original use of historical documents and old-fashioned rendering of the war’s experiential elements. They consider, respectively, the experience of colonial troops, the place of women in the war, and Jackson’s creative, if controversial, interpretation of the visual and aural archive.

Determining the reference values for arterial blood gas, electrolytes and acid-base in healthy male sheep of Iranian Shall breed
The goal of this research was to determine the normal range of arterial blood gas, electrolytes and acid-base status in the healthy male sheep of Iranian Shall breed. For this purpose, the blood sample was collected from the ear artery of 15 Iranian Shall sheep whose health was confirmed by clinical examinations, hematological tests including complete blood count and air-dried blood smear and cardiac evaluations including electrocardiography and echocardiography. Then, the values of pH, partial dioxide carbon pressure, partial oxygen pressure, oxygen saturation, base excess, bicarbonate as well as the concentration of electrolytes and anion gap were measured using a blood gas analyzer. The obtained data were subjected to statistical analyses by SPSS software and the tests of Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Pearson and descriptive statistics of the results were expressed as mean ± SE, range (minimum and maximum) and confidence interval 95.00%. The results showed the mean value of arterial blood gas including oxygen saturation, partial oxygen pressure, and partial dioxide carbon pressure were 95.69%, 61.58, and 26.28 mmHg, respectively, and the others arterial blood parameters including pH, base excess, and bicarbonate were 7.54, 1.61, and 22.84 mmol L-1, respectively. Also, the mean values of arterial blood electrolytes including Na+, K+, and Cl-, were 143.25, 4.22, and 109.46 mmol L-1, respectively, and the mean anion gap was 12.64 mmol L-1. The present study determined the range of normal amounts of arterial blood gas, electrolytes and acid-base status in the healthy male sheep of Iranian Shall breed which could be used as a reference for further research on sheep diseases and to distinguish healthy status from disease.

Shall We Teachs Shall: A Systematic Step-By-Step Approach
The paper discusses the status of in today’s legal drafting and legal translation, and by presenting typologies by a number of authors briefly addresses the variety of meanings it is used to express, in both legislation and contracts. It introduces the “shall dilemma” faced by non-native legal translators working both from and into English. The dilemma consists in the discrepancy between the promiscuous and abundant use of in authentic as well as translated documents, on the one hand, and the recommendations found in various drafting manuals promoting either a -free policy or a disciplined use of , on the other hand. The research part presents the results of a survey carried out among a carefully chosen sample of professional legal translators to determine what their policy is on the use of . The results include both quantitative findings and additional comments made by the translators, and confirms the divide between actual practice and the recommendations. In the next section of the paper, the results are applied and a series of step-by-step exercises are introduced which should raise the awareness of legal translation trainees of the ambiguity of and teach them to use it in a reasoned and disciplined way.

Right parasternal echocardiographic reference values in the healthy male Iranian Shall sheep
Background Among the large animals, the heart of sheep is functionally and structurally very similar to the human heart. In research, sheep are used as an animal model to study the process of cardiac disease pathogenesis and treatment. Therefore, determining the normal values of the heart structures of sheep with echocardiography is of particular emphasis. The purpose of the present research is to define the normal echocardiography values of heart in Iranian Shall breed sheep. Materials and methods In 20 healthy Iranian Shall male sheep weighing 30–35 kg and aged 4–6 months, standing echocardiography was done from the right parasternal approach concentrated on the 3rd to 5th intercostal spaces by 2.5–5 MHz phased array transducer in the longitudinal and transverse views by B‐mode, M‐mode and Doppler systems. In M‐mode echocardiographic, the parameters of interventricular septal, left ventricular internal diameter, left ventricular free wall, right ventricular free wall and right ventricular internal diameter in diastole and systole as well as end point septal separation, ejection fraction (EF) slope, aortic root diameter, left atrial appendage, left atrial diameter/aortic valve diameter, left ventricular ejection time, fractional shortening, end‐diastolic volume, end‐systolic volume, EF, stroke volume and cardiac output and in pulsed‐wave spectral Doppler echocardiographic, the parameters of mitral valve maximum velocity (Vmax), mitral valve mean velocity (Vmean), mitral valve maximum pressure gradient (PGmax), mitral valve mean pressure gradient (PGmean), mitral valve velocity time integral (VTI), mitral valve E‐wave (MV‐E), MV‐E pressure gradient, mitral valve A‐wave (MV‐A), MV‐A pressure gradient, aortic Vmax, aortic valve Vmean, aortic valve PGmax, aortic valve PGmean, aortic valve VTI, left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT)‐Vmax, LVOT‐Vmean were measured. Results All the sheep in this study were healthy and had no signs of heart disease. In this study, the parameters of M‐mode and spectral Doppler echocardiographic were assessed and recognized in Iranian Shall sheep. The results demonstrated the parameters of echocardiographic could be dependably determined in Shall sheep which, established normal reference values for these parameters and left ventricular function indices in healthy Shall sheep. These results can be beneficial in appropriate imagination, recognition and measuring cardiac structures. Conclusion This study can be exerted as a reference for the assessment and diagnosis of heart diseases in sheep medicine and human cardiovascular research in sheep experimental models.
