Computational Methods for Measuring the Difference of Empirical Distributions
This paper presents a simple computational method for measuring the difference of independent empirical distributions estimated by bootstrapping or other resampling approaches. Using data from a field test of external scope in contingent valuation, this complete combinatorial method is compared with other methods (empirical convolutions, repeated sampling, normality, nonoverlapping confidence intervals) that have been suggested in the literature. Tradeoffs between methods are discussed in terms of programming complexity, time and computer resources required, bias, and the precision of the estimate.
Assessment and modeling of the groundwater hydrogeochemical quality parameters via geostatistical approaches
Geostatistical methods are one of the advanced techniques used for interpolation of groundwater quality data. The results obtained from geostatistics will be useful for decision makers to adopt suitable remedial measures to protect the quality of groundwater sources. Data used in this study were collected from 78 wells in Varamin plain aquifer located in southeast of Tehran, Iran, in 2013. Ordinary kriging method was used in this study to evaluate groundwater quality parameters. According to what has been mentioned in this paper, seven main quality parameters (i.e. total dissolved solids (TDS), sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), electrical conductivity (EC), sodium (Na+), total hardness (TH), chloride (Cl−) and sulfate (SO42−)), have been analyzed and interpreted by statistical and geostatistical methods. After data normalization by Nscore method in WinGslib software, variography as a geostatistical tool to define spatial regression was compiled and experimental variograms were plotted by GS+ software. Then, the best theoretical model was fitted to each variogram based on the minimum RSS. Cross validation method was used to determine the accuracy of the estimated data. Eventually, estimation maps of groundwater quality were prepared in WinGslib software and estimation variance map and estimation error map were presented to evaluate the quality of estimation in each estimated point. Results showed that kriging method is more accurate than the traditional interpolation methods.

ARL Numerics for MEWMA Charts
The FORTRAN code in Bodden and Rigdon (1999) for the in-control average run length (ARL) of multivariate exponentially weighted moving average charts (MEWMA) became quite popular and is widely used in statistical software systems such as MINITAB and STATISTICA. We find that the algorithms' accuracy is poor for low-dimensional processes. The Markov chain approximation described in Runger and Prabhu (1996) is not able to resolve the issue. The same holds for the calculation of the out-of-control ARL as proposed in Ridgon (1995b). We present two concepts that achieve higher accuracy for all dimensions. The competing numerical procedures are implemented in the R package spc.
Modeling the mass transfer in biosorption of Cr (VI) y Ni (II) by natural sugarcane bagasse
The Cr (VI) and Ni (II) ion biosorption process by natural sugarcane bagasse in a fixed bed column was investigated. The characteristic removal parameters such as retention capacity, removal percent and unused bed length were experimentally determined at different operating conditions. Overall mass transfer coefficient was investigated and reported for the studied biosorption system. The breakthrough curves were simulated using Matlab2010a software to check the validity of the obtained overall mass transfer coefficients. Experimental data fitted well with predicted data (R2 = 0.94). A statistical analysis was performed using the software Statgraphics Centurion-X V15.2.06 to compare the simulated and experimental data. No significant differences were observed between experimental and simulated data. The best operating conditions for Cr (VI) removal were 15 mg/L of inlet concentration and 1.5 g of biosorbent. For Ni (II) removal the best results were obtained with 25 mg/L of inlet concentration and 1.5 g of solid. The results obtained through the breakthrough curve showed high removal percentages (94.70 and 97.90% for chromium and nickel, respectively). Moreover, results indicated that sorption of these metals was irreversible and it was controlled by the mass transfer at the external film.
