Mathematical Foundation Of Informatics, The - Proceedings Of The Conference
This volume presents research results ranging from those in pure mathematical theory (semigroup theory, graph theory, etc.) to those in theoretical and applied computer science, e.g. formal languages, automata, codes, parallel and distributed computing, formal systems, knowledge systems and database theory.
The green computing book : tackling energy efficiency at large scale /edited by Wu-chun Feng
\"Driven by the newly placed importance and growing search for ways to make computing greener and more efficient, this reference is the first research-level book devoted to green computing and large-scale energy efficiency. With contributions from leading experts in the field, the book presents current research and developments in hardware, systems software, run-time systems, programming languages, data center management, and applications. It also covers the emerging green movement in computing, including the Green Grid and the Green 500 list, as well as important programs in grassroots organizations and government agencies\"-- Provided by publisher.
Empowering the Defense Acquisition Workforce to Improve Mission Outcomes Using Data Science
The effective use of data science - the science and technology of extracting value from data - improves, enhances, and strengthens acquisition decision-making and outcomes. Using data science to support decision making is not new to the defense acquisition community; its use by the acquisition workforce has enabled acquisition and thus defense successes for decades. Still, more consistent and expanded application of data science will continue improving acquisition outcomes, and doing so requires coordinated efforts across the defense acquisition system and its related communities and stakeholders. Central to that effort is the development, growth, and sustainment of data science capabilities across the acquisition workforce. At the request of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment, Empowering the Defense Acquisition Workforce to Improve Mission Outcomes Using Data Science assesses how data science can improve acquisition processes and develops a framework for training and educating the defense acquisition workforce to better exploit the application of data science. This report identifies opportunities where data science can improve acquisition processes, the relevant data science skills and capabilities necessary for the acquisition workforce, and relevant models of data science training and education.
The tao of computing
\"This text presents a broad, practical introduction to computers and computer technology. It uses a question and answer format to provide thoughtful answers to the many practical questions that students have about computing. The text offers a down-to-earth overview of fundamental computer fluency topics, from the basics of how a computer is organized to an overview of operating systems to a description of how the Internet works. The second edition includes new technological advances, new applications, examples from popular culture, and new research exercises\"-- Provided by publisher.
Towards a comprehensive understanding of blockchain technology adoption in various industries in developing and emerging economies: a systematic review
The fast growth and wide range of applications of blockchain (BC) technology in various industries is irrefutable. Generally, BC technology is still in at an infant stage but it has generated significant interests in many sectors and industries. Nonetheless, despite an uptake of interest on the application of BC technology, the extent of its adoption in various industries in many countries remains partially understood. This paper aims to assess the current status of research on adoption of BC technology in various industries, particularly in developing and emerging economies. This study systematically reviewed the applied theories and models, adoption factors considered in each study, benefits, barriers and challenges of BC adoption intention in different industries from 86 articles published in the past five years from 2019 to end of June 2023. Findings showed several popular adoption models such as the Technology Acceptance Model, Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology and Task Technology Fit in the reviewed articles. Benefits, barriers and challenges were evident from each of the industries, implying the need to further understand BC adoption and application in these industries. This review also identifies a few research gaps and provides recommendations for future researches.
Roadmap to greener computing
\"A concise and accessible introduction to green computing and green IT, this book addresses how computer science and the computer infrastructure affect the environment and presents the main challenges in making computing more environmentally friendly. The authors review the methodologies, designs, frameworks, and software development tools that can be used in computer science to reduce energy consumption and still compute efficiently. They also focus on Computer Aided Design (CAD) and describe what design engineers and CAD software applications can do to support new streamlined business directions and improve the environment\"-- Provided by publisher.

Teaching out-of-field : factors shaping identities of secondary science and mathematics
There is wide acceptance that there are teacher shortages, particularly in physics, chemistry and mathematics, and in rural and hard-to-staff schools. An issue that arises because of this shortage is teachers teaching subjects that they are not qualified to teach. In this paper, the author draws on her research and that of others to outline the issues for teachers who are teaching outside their subject areas, or 'out-of-field', particularly at the junior secondary level, and particularly in mathematics or science. This practice is prevalent in many Australian schools and it has enormous implications for policy and practice around school governance, funding arrangements and structures associated with continued teacher development, and initial teacher education. In this paper, the author refers only to the teacher perspective, but this issue ultimately impacts on the quality of the education they provide students. The paper concludes with recommendations for school governance practices, teacher education and professional development. [Author abstract]
