Was Rolf Hochhuth's Play, The Deputy, the Result of a KGB Plot? Assessing the Merits of a Decades-old Conspiracy Theory
2023
This article seeks to debunk a conspiracy theory regarding the origins of the German playwright Rolf Hochhuth's incendiary play from 1963, The Deputy, which denounced Pope Pius XII for his alleged silence about German crimes in the Holocaust. According to these conspiracy theories, this plays success was the result of a masterstroke by Soviet intelligence, which had infiltrated the Vatican and stolen documents from the Vatican archives. By examining letters and correspondence pertaining to the play's origins, including its original drafts, this article argues that this conspiracy theory is chronologically implausible. Hochhuth's own account of the play's origins remains more or less correct, some inaccurate details notwithstanding.

Holocaust Denier Is Convicted in Austria
2006
David Irving, who for decades has denied the existence of the death camps at Auschwitz, was sentenced to three years in jail in Austria. Irving is probably best known in the US and Britain for pursuing a libel lawsuit in the late 1990s against Deborah E. Lipstadt, an Emory University historian who is a leading scholar of the Holocaust. The case destroyed his reputation as a researcher.

Heaven help us if these are 'moderates'
2006
It's Colditz for you Herr [Irving DAVID IRVING] THERE are lies, damned lies and opinion polls. So it's difficult to know how much credence to give an ICM survey which reports that 40 per cent of British Muslims want Sharia law introduced in this country. ICM regards the sample group of 500 as 'moderate'. If this is what passes for moderate, heaven help us. Even a leading Muslim Labour MP says the results of the poll are 'alarming'. Charles Clarke, the Home Secretary, says the poll illustrates the need to make Muslims feel part of British society. But setting up Islamic ghettos and agitating for Sharia law in Britain is not a way to go about bringing communities together. Nor is expressing sympathy for a gang of lunatics who killed 52 people and injured hundreds of others in London on July 7.

FED:Frozen blood for the frontline
2011
Talks were also continuing with the Australian Defence Force (ADF), he said, to develop the necessary \"frozen chain\" from Australia to an offshore military or emergency hot spot. \"Once the system is developed and the logistics for transportation are finalised, then, as long as there is a frozen chain from source of freezing to the source of utilisation, it (the blood) can be kept for some time, and some distance,\" Dr [David Irving] told AAP on Wednesday. Dr Irving also praised the nation's \"very strong and loyal donor base\" who turn out regularly to give blood, and said the prospect of supporting the troops in this way could provide some with additional motivation.

AJC Protests Spanish Newspaper's Portrayal of Holocaust Denier as 'Expert'
2009
\"[David Irving] has made a career out of lying,\" said AJC Executive Director David Harris. \"For El Mundo to bill a Holocaust denier as an 'expert' and 'innovative thinker' heaps shame upon that newspaper.\" \"Justice Gray's ruling is the definitive guide to understanding who Irving really is,\" said Harris. \"Disturbingly, El Mundo appears content to allow Irving to lie about both the Holocaust and himself in the name of 'free speech.'\"

Freedom of speech garbled
by
Hundley, Tom
in
Irving, David
2006
While newspaper editors debate the right or wrong of publishing a dozen Danish cartoons mocking the Prophet Muhammad, a judge in Austria gave Holocaust denier David Irving a 3-year prison sentence for a speech he made 17 years ago, though Irving now says he sees the error of his ways, sort of. So, it seems that denying the Holocaust is not a crime in Britain, but calling for jihad is; while in Austria -- a country that spent decades denying its own complicity in the Holocaust -- Holocaust denial can land you in jail, but calling for jihad might, at worst, get you deported. The BNP, which has miniscule support in Britain, adamantly opposes immigration and multiculturalism. After the verdict, Griffin told supporters that Britain had to decide whether it wanted to be an \"Islamic republic\" or remain \"a free, Western, democratic society.\"
