HOW CHURCH LEADERS TACKLE OPPRESSION
The Russian Orthodox delegates were obviously in Vancouver after receiving K.G.B. clearance, and if the W.C.C. were to speak out on Soviet Russia the way it does on South Africa, those delegates could face unpleasantries (or worse) after their return. And the W.C.C. would find it exceedingly embarrassing if the Russian Orthodox Church were to break ecclesiastical relationships with it. I don't think a bit of politics is necessarily that bad, whether engaged in by the President or by church bureaucrats. We all must somehow deal with the ambiguities of life.
