TUTAURU, THE ADZE OF NGAHUE, IN MYTH AND HISTORY

Tutauru is the first Mäori artefact ever collected accompanied with some of its traditional oral history. This article explores the history and evolution of the Tutauru, the Adze of Ngahue, which was brought to New Zealand from Hawaiki. The Adze named Tutauru is now part of the William Oldman artefact collection and is currently held in Auckland Museum, New Zealand.
