Family ties and woes are woven through 'Drinking'
That cast features Lemon Bay Playhouse veteran actors Bob LaSalle, Rosie Tremo and Jim Walsh, along with newcomers Dianne Brin and Elaine Levin. Jim Walsh plays [Joey Todd] and said his biggest hurdle in preparing for the play was understanding the relationship between Joey and his father. In their own lives, Brin and Levin are sisters. They've found their roles particularly challenging on stage when Brin, Joey's sister and Levin, Joey's fiancee, get caught up in a vicious cat fight.
Four area players named to Shrine Bowl
South Columbus coach Joey Price has been vocal in lobbying for Stallions' senior Bryan Dixon to make the North Carolina Shrine Bowl football team. Three other area players made the team, including 6-foot-5, 222- pound Hoggard tight end Rob Varno, surgically repaired Ashley standout wide receiver Levin Neal and Whiteville defensive back Marquis Melvin. South Brunswick wide receiver Scott Long was selected as an alternate. Varno, according Vikings' coach Scott Braswell, also a Shrine Bowl assistant, has developed into a Division I prospect because of his dedication. Varno is the first Viking chosen to the Shrine Bowl since 1989.
