Hybrid attention mechanism for few‐shot relational learning of knowledge graphs
2021
Few‐shot knowledge graph (KG) reasoning is the main focus in the field of knowledge graph reasoning. In order to expand the application fields of the knowledge graph, a large number of studies are based on a large number of training samples. However, we have learnt that there are actually many missing relationships or entities in the knowledge graph, and in most cases, there are not many training instances when implementing new relationships. To tackle it, in this study, the authors aim to predict a new entity given few reference instances, even only one training instance. A few‐shot learning framework based on a hybrid attention mechanism is proposed. The framework employs traditional embedding models to extract knowledge, and uses an attenuated attention network and a self‐attention mechanism to obtain the hidden attributes of entities. Thus, it can learn a matching metric by considering both the learnt embeddings and one‐hop graph structures. The experimental results present that the model has achieved significant performance improvements on the NELL‐One and Wiki‐One datasets.

Competitive spirit as a form of behavioral addiction: the case study of Michael Jordan
2021
When studying biographical narratives constituting “The Michael Jordan Myth,” certain patterns emerge. For example, it is possible to identify mythemes corresponding with Campbell’s concept of the hero’s journey monomyth. This study focuses on a particular pattern, which is a progression of addiction with its phases, axial points, and list of symptoms. One of the most frequently used epithets in regard to the hero of this particular myth is “competitive.” While this is a quality of numerous outstanding athletes, in Jordan’s case competitiveness appears as a dominant quality and a driving force throughout his entire career.
The premise of my study is the assumption that Jordan’s competitive spirit is a symptom of behavioral addiction and winning/defeating rivals is the behavior of an addict. The goal of the study is to use Jordan’s biographies and, based on Jellinek’s model of addiction progression, to verify whether Jordan’s accomplishments on and off the court can be viewed as symptoms of unclassified behavioral addiction.

Don't Sweat the Technique: Making Writing Processes Public
2021
Process texts are published works that pull back the curtain on composition to show the techniques, tools, technologies, procedures, and/or inspirations of the creative process. Process texts also emerge mostly from nonfiction genres including memoirs, documentary films, and podcasts. In this article, educator Jason Griffith shares ways teachers and students can use process texts as authentic examples of how creative works are made by various artists and authors. He begins by providing examples of process texts and then explains how they can be complementary to mentor texts--works that writers can return to again and again to study and apply moves from published writers. Process texts reveal how mentor texts came to be. Griffith concludes with some ideas for using process texts as a tool for teaching creative writing.

Services as emulation marketing: conceptualization and concerns
2024
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to introduce emulation marketing as an important strategy to consider for services marketing researchers and practitioners, given the ability to plant an aspirational goal in consumers' minds. Building on theories of lifestyle, values, self-concept and others, this conceptual paper presents the case for emulation marketing as an important consideration within services marketing.
Design/methodology/approach
To explore mechanisms that will define service research in the future, this conceptual paper reviews the literature across the spectrum of social comparison and learning, social adaptation, conformity, values, persuasion and role modeling. The authors analyze existing theories while proposing a new mechanism, emulation, to advance research in service literature.
Findings
This paper suggests mechanisms to promote emulation in services marketing through the consumer decision process. A research agenda for future work is provided with emphasis on lack of emulation, emulation and status, emulation and aging, emulation and technology, emulation and linguistics and the dark side of emulation. Within each area, a series of considerations are discussed.
Originality/value
This paper introduces emulation as an important mechanism within services marketing. It offers a research agenda focused on a variety of emerging areas in the field. The paper contributes to services marketing and future research by proposing a novel approach, via emulation, to services marketing.
