Scrap metal law targets stolen goods ; Dayton's new legislation aims to keep thieves from fencing to salvage yards
A 48-year-old man remains in a hospital after Dayton police said he cut a live wire while trying to take scrap metal from an old paper mill. The June 1 stunt set the man and a 40-foot power pole on fire at 354 S. Edwin C. Moses Blvd. It started two years ago when [Matt Joseph] said he and some neighbors arranged a deal with salvage yards that would stop thieves from selling them scrap metal.
Palace fear that Mullins could be the next to go
HAYDEN MULLINS could be the next Crystal Palace player to be sold after the England Under-21 midfielder inspired his team's comeback in the 2-2 draw against First Division promotion-chasers Huddersfield at Selhurst Park. Things looked bleak for Palace when Marcus Stewart gave Huddersfield a 2-0 lead by halftime but Mullins headed home soon after the break and Andy Linighan grabbed the equaliser. BRENTFORD manager Ron Noades believes he has unearthed a gem in Ivar Ingimarsson after the Icelandic Under-21 midfielder scored the only goal to seal a 1-0 win against to Second Division strugglers Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

ALL ABOUT CARS' TO AIR ON WTDY
WTDY General Manager Bill Vancil is offering the first hour of the two-hour \"All About Cars\" free to all stations on WPR's Ideas Network -- outside the Madison market. \"We feel that the rest of the Wisconsin should have the opportunity to continue to hear [Matt Joseph]'s program as listeners in Madison will have,\" Vancil said. Torpedo run: Nix to the rumor making the rounds Downtown that former Madison area state senator Peter Bear is being considered for the board of directors of Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Co.

Especially disgusting to me inthis dispute has been the involvement of several members of the Legislature as legislators.
MINUS MATT JOSEPH, WHA LISTENERS RUN OUT OF GAS
We think that Matt's car knowledge -- both historical and mechanical -- is phenomenal, and that WHA and its listeners have been extremely fortunate in having had his program for the last eight or-so years. We enjoy it all: His reviews of new cars, his answers to listeners' questions, and his special guests -- all presented with his articulate and interesting delivery.

JOSEPH A ROLLS; `CARTALK' A CLUNKER
Matt Joseph's program is a local program catering to the Wisconsin radio audience whereas the \"Car Talk\" program is not. Joseph's program is informative and of high quality whereas \"Car Talk\" is a comedy show about cars.

CAR-BUYING IMPORTANT; JOSEPH'S SHOW HELPED
We need unbiased information on automobiles. A weekly feature in your paper and in the New York Times helps, but hardly supplies enough. The trade publications hold interest, but necessarily restrain their comments. They find value in all cars, but do not convey adequate comparative analysis. [Matt Joseph] holds a high place in my book because of his deep knowledge, forthright manner, and candor in expressing his views.
