Knowledge domain and emerging trends in Alzheimer's disease: a scientometric review based on CiteSpace analysis

Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia. It is an increasingly serious global health problem and has a significant impact on individuals and society. However, the precise cause of Alzheimer's disease is still unknown. In this study, 11,748 Web-of-Science-indexed manuscripts regarding Alzheimer's disease, all published from 2015 to 2019, and their 693,938 references were analyzed. A document co-citation network map was drawn using CiteSpace software. Research frontiers and development trends were determined by retrieving subject headings with apparent changing word frequency trends, which can be used to forecast future research developments in Alzheimer's disease.

Knowledge Mapping on Nepal’s Protected Areas Using CiteSpace and VOSviewer

Protected areas (PAs) play a vital role in environmental conservation, particularly in Asian countries. Numerous studies were conducted on PAs in Nepal. We analyzed 864 papers from the Web of Science database using two visualization tools: VOSviewer and CiteSpace. This study identified the most influential journals, institutions, countries, and regions. In addition, we investigated the changing trend of research hotspots on PAs in Nepal. Keyword mapping was conducted for each type of PA and their differences were compared. We found that the research hotspots are changing with the shifting of conservation policies in Nepal. We suggest conducting more predictive studies on the future development of PAs. Currently, PA research is mainly conducted in traditional disciplines, but with the impact of climate change and the consequent increase in its negative impacts, academic contributions from other disciplines are expected to increase much more. We found that there was a shift in research power in countries and regions. We also detected an imbalanced distribution in which “protected areas” and “national parks” have been studied the most. Only 12 publications were about the hunting reserve, despite its importance to snow leopard conservation and economic significance to the buffer zone communities.

Concept mapping, mind mapping and argument mapping: what are the differences and do they matter?

In recent years, academics and educators have begun to use software mapping tools for a number of education-related purposes. Typically, the tools are used to help impart critical and analytical skills to students, to enable students to see relationships between concepts, and also as a method of assessment. The common feature of all these tools is the use of diagrammatic relationships of various kinds in preference to written or verbal descriptions. Pictures and structured diagrams are thought to be more comprehensible than just words, and a clearer way to illustrate understanding of complex topics. Variants of these tools are available under different names: \"concept mapping\", \"mind mapping\" and \"argument mapping\". Sometimes these terms are used synonymously. However, as this paper will demonstrate, there are clear differences in each of these mapping tools. This paper offers an outline of the various types of tool available and their advantages and disadvantages. It argues that the choice of mapping tool largely depends on the purpose or aim for which the tool is used and that the tools may well be converging to offer educators as yet unrealised and potentially complementary functions (HRK / Abstract übernommen).

Mapping the Literature on Academic Publishing: A Bibliometric Analysis on WOS

With the data from the Web of Science Core Collection-Citation database for the period (1970–2020), we conducted a dynamic visual systematic review of the literature on academic publishing with the help of bibliometric software, CiteSpace, and VOSviewer. The main purpose is to reveal the internal structures and hidden inferences, including the diversified discipline, top-ranked journals, most widely occurring topics, most cited and leading articles, highly productive and outstanding scholars, and most contributing institutions and countries. The co-citation, co-occurrence, cluster detection, and strong citation burstness were employed to show the intellectual base, evolutionary stages, and dynamics of transitions of academic publishing. The study defines the whole profile of international academic publishing, presenting its diachronic evolution, identifying research front, detecting emerging trends and abrupt changes. It expands the previous paradigm that ignored the large data corpus, aiming to provide certain reference value for future research of academic publishing.

Analysis of research trends regarding (COVID)-19 and creativity

This study integrated COVID-19 and creativity into the literature through knowledge mapping visualization, to promote existing academic results and provide a reference value for subsequent research. Accordingly, we analyzed the distribution of the literature on COVID-19 and creativity,
research hotspots, and representative groups of authors. We found that the topic of COVID-19 and creativity has sparked interdisciplinary research, leading to cross-disciplinary and cross-national collaborations. Creativity can be used to cope with the challenges and social complexity brought
about by COVID-19. The law of theme development in the existing literature was divided into three stages: exploratory (2020), active (2021), and stable (2022). Our findings indicate that the upsurge of research on COVID-19 and creativity may slow down, but that models, intention, energy, life,
benefits, space, and music are likely to be themes for future research.

Knowledge Domain and Emerging Trends in Vinegar Research: A Bibliometric Review of the Literature from WoSCC

Vinegar is one of the most widely used acidic condiments. In recent decades, rapid advances have been made in the area of vinegar research, and the intellectual structure pertaining to this domain has significantly evolved. Thus, it is important that scientists keep abreast of associated developments to ensure an appropriate understanding of this field. To facilitate this current study, a bibliometric analysis method was adopted to visualize the knowledge map of vinegar research based on literature data retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. In total, 883 original research and review articles from between 1998 and 2019 with 19,663 references were analyzed by CiteSpace. Both a macroscopical sketch and microscopical characterization of the whole knowledge domain were realized. According to the research contents, the main themes that underlie vinegar research can be divided into six categories, that is, microorganisms, substances, health functions, production technologies, adjuvant medicines, and vinegar residues. In addition to the latter analysis, emerging trends and future research foci were predicted. Finally, the evolutionary stage of vinegar research was discerned according to Shneider’s four-stage theory. This review will help scientists to discern the dynamic evolution of vinegar research, as well as highlight areas for future research.

Prof. Zeyuan Liu was the first to introduce the concept of knowledge-domain mapping to the scientific community in China. Knowledge-domain maps are useful tools for tracking the frontiers of science and technology, facilitating knowledge management, and assisting scientific and technological decision-making. Science overlay mapping as a type of knowledge-domain mapping can visualize the location of research within the sciences from both snapshots at any fixed time and from a dynamic perspective. Most current science overlay maps merely show the basic landscape of a research field during specific periods, but fail to track temporal changes and interactions between different research fields. Applying an individual document-based cross-citation approach to a dataset retrieved in the Web of Science Core Collection for the period 1999–2018, we have built a global science map based on cognitive similarities across the 16 ECOOM major research fields. Using citation-link strength (CLS), we then traced information flows to better understand how the internal structures of these research fields have evolved. The paper concludes with a brief description of the emergence and development of the mapping of knowledge domains in China, in general, and highlights the contribution of Zeyuan Liu to the topic of mapping knowledge domains, in particular.

Digital entrepreneurship: global maps and trends of research

Purpose
Digital technologies, such as big data and artificial intelligence, significantly impact entrepreneurial activities worldwide. However, research on entrepreneurial activities enabled by digital technologies is fragmented, divergent and delayed. This study aims to provide a structured review of digital entrepreneurship (DE) to identify status, hotspots, knowledge structure, dynamic trends and future developments in this field.
Design/methodology/approach
The bibliometric analysis was applied to offer a technological review on DE. In total 704 publications and their 34,083 references from Web of Science were retrieved as the sample set. Basic characteristics of publications, including the most influential documents, authors, journals and countries, were obtained. Then, co-citation and co-occurrence analyses were conducted to sketch the contours of the structure and evolution of DE.
Findings
DE has attracted increasing attention in the past three decades, especially after 2013. There are dozens of countries, hundreds of journals and more than 1,000 authors that have contributed to this field. Based on keyword co-occurrence clustering and co-citation clustering, the authors proposed a 3E (empower, evolution and ecosystem) framework of DE to facilitate an interdisciplinary dialogue for evidence-based policymaking and practice. In the future, researchers need to pay more attention to theoretical research and study DE from a holistic and dynamic perspective with consideration to the negative impact of digital technology on entrepreneurial activities.
Originality/value
This study draws an outline of the global advance on DE research. It presents an opportunity to comprehensively understand the contemporary achievements, the march of knowledge and the logical venation underlying academic developments as well as foundations for policymaking.

Google Earth Engine: A Global Analysis and Future Trends

The continuous increase in the volume of geospatial data has led to the creation of storage tools and the cloud to process data. Google Earth Engine (GEE) is a cloud-based platform that facilitates geoprocessing, making it a tool of great interest to the academic and research world. This article proposes a bibliometric analysis of the GEE platform to analyze its scientific production. The methodology consists of four phases. The first phase corresponds to selecting “search” criteria, followed by the second phase focused on collecting data during the 2011 and 2022 periods using Elsevier’s Scopus database. Software and bibliometrics allowed to review the published articles during the third phase. Finally, the results were analyzed and interpreted in the last phase. The research found 2800 documents that received contributions from 125 countries, with China and the USA leading as the countries with higher contributions supporting an increment in the use of GEE for the visualization and processing of geospatial data. The intellectual structure study and knowledge mapping showed that topics of interest included satellites, sensors, remote sensing, machine learning, land use and land cover. The co-citations analysis revealed the connection between the researchers who used the GEE platform in their research papers. GEE has proven to be an emergent web platform with the potential to manage big satellite data easily. Furthermore, GEE is considered a multidisciplinary tool with multiple applications in various areas of knowledge. This research adds to the current knowledge about the Google Earth Engine platform, analyzing its cognitive structure related to the research in the Scopus database. In addition, this study presents inferences and suggestions to develop future works with this methodology.

Mechanisms and disease associations of oxidative stress-mediated brain-bone axis dysregulation: a knowledge mapping and trend analysis based on Bibliometrics

BackgroundOxidative stress, characterized by the systemic imbalance between reactive oxygen species and antioxidant defenses, is increasingly recognized as a central pathological nexus driving the dysregulation of the brain-bone axis. Despite the accumulation of empirical evidence, a systematic characterization of the field’s intellectual structure and thematic progression remains absent. This study employs a multi-database bibliometric approach to map the research landscape of oxidative stress-mediated neuro-skeletal crosstalk and identify emerging research frontiers.MethodsA systematic search was performed across the Web of Science Core Collection, Scopus, and PubMed databases from their inception to April 30, 2025. Following a rigorous screening process based on predefined criteria, 717 relevant publications were included. Bibliometric mapping and network analyses were conducted using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and the Bibliometrix R-package to evaluate collaboration patterns, co-citation structures, and keyword evolution.ResultsThe analysis reveals a steady increase in research output since 2009, marked by distinct developmental phases. Early investigations primarily focused on fundamental oxidative damage mechanisms, while subsequent research transitioned toward systemic disease associations (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease and osteoporosis) and targeted intervention strategies, including mesenchymal stem cell therapy and melatonin. Recent trends indicate a methodological and thematic shift toward high-resolution translational themes, such as neuroimmune regulation and the “gut-brain-bone” axis. Notably, “gut microbiota” and “extracellular vesicles” have emerged as high-centrality nodes, reflecting an increasing focus on inter-organ communication and systemic redox modulation.ConclusionThis study provides the first comprehensive mapping of the research trajectories within the oxidative stress-mediated brain-bone axis field. The findings delineate a clear progression from isolated mechanistic studies toward integrated, multi-system frameworks, underscoring the shift toward precision medicine and translational applications. By identifying current research gaps and emerging hotspots, this analysis offers a systematic reference for future interdisciplinary investigations and the development of targeted therapeutic strategies for neuro-skeletal comorbidities.
