A decade of helping seniors tackle technology
\"We like to specialize in free stuff,\" says club president Charlie Le Ber, with a laugh. \"We have a club memory stick we keep up-to-date with about 70 different programs because, sometimes, free programs are hard to find on the net.\" \"As of three years ago, it was the largest club in the country,\" says Le Ber. \"It was easy enough for me to check that, because we were part of an umbrella group run by Microsoft, but they stopped all that. But I'm pretty sure we're still the biggest because most clubs have about 15 to 20 people, meeting in the evening after work.\" \"They didn't have the cage, the balls and all the mechanical stuff you need for that,\" said Le Ber. \"I found a free program so they could have electronic bingo. They don't even need a caller, because the program does it automatically.\" \"There's even one in Switzerland, one in Australia and one in Germany,\" says Le Ber. \"They're friends or relatives of local members and they just want to be part of it because, if you have the password, you can get into various things on the web site.\"
Pious recluse to have new resting place: Jeanne Le Ber. Spurned wealth, spent life in prayer
[Jeanne Le Ber] was born in Montreal in 1662 when it was still Ville Marie. Her father was the richest merchant in the fledgling colony. She had as her godparents the colony's founders, Paul de Chomedey Sieur de Maisonneuve and Jeanne Mance. Le Ber was almost certainly taught by the city's first schoolteacher, Marguerite Bourgeoys. \"We won't have 1,500 people at the mass. It's a much more private affair. Le Ber is not a saint. She's not even beatified. So we regard her as a pious, holy woman. We don't want to promote a Le Ber cult.\" Colour Photo: MARIE-FRANCE COALLIER, THE GAZETTE / Sister Stella Fenile of the Congregation of Notre Dame shows embroidery by Jeanne Le Ber from the collection of Maison Saint-Gabriel. ;
Security tight but relaxed for Charles
With daughter Isabella, [Laurence Le Ber], who now lives in Dunedin, waited on the side of the road as the Prince emerged from St Paul's Cathedral after an hour-long service. \"This (access) is everything that's great about living in New Zealand,\" Le Ber said. In 1981, Christopher John Lewis attempted to shoot the Queen with a . 22 rifle from a high-rise building across the road from the cathedral. If he was aware of the connection, the Prince appeared unworried yesterday, and even accepted a handful of paperwork from a man claiming to be a distant relation. How the West was won
If you've been following our adventures on my blog at wheels.ca, then you know that we've made it to the prairie. After some initial problems with emptying out the waste water tanks and sorting out the TV, we've settled into a fairly comfortable rhythm of RV life at last, helped by some good advice from readers. That's when I remembered the closing words of [Mike Le Ber]'s e-mail: \"I'm sure after this trip you will find you are just getting started on the learning curve,\" he wrote. \"It ends when they bury you.\" Credit: [Mark Richardson] Toronto Star Mark Richardson; is the editor of ; Toronto Star Wheels ; mrichardson@thestar.ca; Follow Mark Richardson's RV journey to the West Coast on his blog at wheels.ca.

Man hit his pregnant girlfriend in stomach
  Judge David Price told the defendant: \"The assault on your wife was committed in a disgusting way. You spat at her and punched her stomach at a time you knew her to be pregnant.\" David Outterside, prosecuting, said Le-Ber had been arguing with his then girlfriend on January 5 when the assault took place. Mr Outterside said: \"The complainant had recently discovered she was pregnant by the defendant and, to summarise, this became the source of disagreement between the two. By January 5, both parties had agreed to end the relationship and Mrs Le-Ber was due to move out on January 7.\"
Metro safe from rise in rabies
Although Ontario is in the midst of a record outbreak of rabies, Metro residents are relatively safe. The number of people treated for exposure to rabies across Ontario more than doubled during the first five months of this year, reaching 1,773, health ministry figures show. But [Chuck Le Ber] said the majority of cases occur in eastern Ontario and are linked to its large fox population.

Learning to live at St. Leonard's Place
A United Way of Peel Region poster on the wall confirms the reality: one in five in the community will experience mental illness on substance abuse in their lifetime. There's a wood-shop training program taught by a certified cabinet maker, and there's a recreation and wellness centre, as well as music and poetry.
