Discourse on leadership : a critical appraisal
\"In a wide-ranging and provocative new study, Bert A. Spector provides a critical analysis of past and present theories of leadership. Spector asserts that our perception of leadership influences who we vote for, who we hire and promote, and ultimately, who we choose to grant our authority to. Focusing on leadership in discourse, the book sets out to explore how the notion of leadership has been articulated, studied and debated by academics, but also by practitioners, journalists, and others who seek to influence the thoughts of others. Paying particular attention to the social, economic, political, intellectual and historical forces that have helped shape the discussion, Discourse on Leadership offers an insightful historiography of leadership as a concept and how our understanding of it continues to evolve\"-- Provided by publisher.
Power, Institutions, and Leadership in War and Peace
In January 1995, fighting broke out between Ecuadorian and Peruvian military forces in a remote section of the Amazon. It took more than three years and the interplay of multiple actors and factors to achieve a definitive peace agreement, thus ending what had been the region's oldest unresolved border dispute. This conflict and its resolution provide insights about other unresolved and/or disputed land and sea boundaries which involve almost every country in the Western Hemisphere. Drawing on extensive field research at the time of the dispute and during its aftermath, including interviews with high-ranking diplomats and military officials,Power, Institutions, and Leadership in War and Peaceis the first book-length study to relate this complex border dispute and its resolution to broader theories of conflict. The findings emphasize an emerging leadership approach in which individuals are not mere captives of power and institutions. In addition, the authors illuminate an overlap in national and international arenas in shaping effective articulation, perception, and selection of policy. In the \"new\" democratic Latin America that emerged in the late 1970s through the early 1990s, historical memory remains influential in shaping the context of disputes, in spite of presumed U.S. post-Cold War influence. This study offers important, broader perspectives on a hemisphere still rife with boundary disputes as a rising number of people and products (including arms) pass through these borderlands.
Personal and organizational excellence through servant leadership : learning to serve, serving to lead, leading to transform
\"This book provides an evidence-based actionable framework and measure of servant leadership to help management practitioners build effective and ethical workplaces. It explains the reasons why the best workplaces such as Starbucks, Southwest Airlines, Ritz-Carlton, and ServiceMaster apply servant leadership. Servant leadership is an intellectually compelling and emotionally satisfying theory of leadership with relevance and application to the workplace settings. Based on multiple rigorous studies in the Western and Eastern contexts, the book outlines the six dimensions of servant leadership and the impacts they have on key outcomes such as citizenship behaviors, job satisfaction, team creativity and innovation, and organizational performance. The book outlines a measurement instrument that can be used for leadership assessment, selection, and training purposes, and to develop strategies to leverage the six behavioral dimensions of servant leadership at the personal, team, and organizational level.\" -- Back cover.
Impact of Big 5 Personality Intelligence on Transformational Leadership Process and Managerial Performance: A Case of the Middle East Gulf Region /Impacto da Personalidade e Inteligencia das Big 5 no Processo de Lideranca Transformational e no Desempenho Gerencial: Um caso da regiao do Golfo no Oriente Medio
The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of emotional intelligence (EI) and the Big Five personality traits on the attainment of success in leadership positions within hospital administration. The researchers predicted the association between emotional intelligence (EI) and neuroticism, anticipating a negative link. Additionally, they projected a positive relationship between EI and the Big Five personality traits, specifically openness to experience, agreeableness, openness to new ideas, and extraversion. The primary objective of this study is to fill a void in the existing body of research by examining the relationship between personality, emotional intelligence (EI), and leadership effectiveness and performance. Our results indicate that the association between individual differences, leadership, and performance exist. This study did not examine the firm's performance metrics, but the disturbances' absorption of measurement errors in the endogenous regressors, which are independent of the exogenous, and minimize coefficient estimate biasesas as held by (Antonakakis et al., 2020). Individual predictors had a low to moderate effect on variation, but their aggregate influence accounted for 56% of transformational leadership variance and 26% of management leadership effectiveness variance. Our study supported merits consideration due to the implementation of controls such as age and managerial experience, the utilization of a longitudinal measure of effectiveness, and the mitigation of common method variance through the use of measures from different sources for predictors and criteria.
Public leadership
In studying public leadership we are interested in the use of the voice to motivate, inspire, and organise public action. The focus is the leadership that stimulates co-ordinated response to the problems that the public accepts. Public leadership pulls a group of people (a society) together and co-ordinates their response to their world. This book presents topical research in the study of public leadership, including police organisation and leadership; brand leadership in a public sector context; leadership compensation in subsidiaries; exploring the public leadership performance of faith-based healthcare organisation; and educational leadership.
