MODERN LEADERSHIP TYPES AND OUTCOMES: THE CASE OF GREEK PUBLIC SECTOR
The aim of this research is to highlight the characteristics of modern leadership types, under the Multifactor Leadership Theory, i.e. the Transformational, Transactional and Laissezfaire Leadership types. The research objectives focus on distinct effects of these leadership types on both “followers’ (employees’) perceived leadership outcomes”, namely the “followers’ perceived leadership effectiveness” and the “followers’ job satisfaction”, according to Bass. The research was conducted by a case study in the Greek public procurement sector, with the usage of the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ). Transformational Leadership was found to strongly and positively determine both the “followers’ perceived leadership effectiveness” and “followers’ job satisfaction”, while the positive impact of Transactional Leadership on these two criteria proved to be less strong, followed by the strongly negative effect of Laissez-faire Leadership. The conclusions drawn can be applied in public sector organizations with high performance standards.

The Effect of Principal Behaviors on Student, Teacher, and School Outcomes: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of the Empirical Literature
Principals are understood to be critical actors in improving teaching and learning conditions in schools; however, relatively little is known about the leadership strategies to which principals should dedicate their time and effort to improve outcomes. We review the empirical literature from 51 studies of principal behaviors and student, teacher, and school outcomes and conduct a meta-analysis of these relationships. Our analysis has three central findings: (1) we find direct evidence of the relationship between principal behaviors and student achievement (0.08–0.16 SD), teacher well-being (0.34–0.38 SD), teacher instructional practices (0.35 SD), and school organizational health (0.72–0.81 SD); (2) we highlight the importance of principal behaviors beyond instructional management as potential tools to improve student achievement outcomes; and (3) the preceding findings are based almost entirely on observational studies because the causal evidence base on school leadership behaviors is nonexistent. We argue our findings suggest value in investing in school leadership capacities. We conclude by discussing opportunities to improve the quality of future research examining the relationship between principal behaviors and student, teacher, and school outcomes.

Innovation and intellectual capital as intermediary variables among transformational leadership, transactional leadership, and organizational performance
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the mediating effect of intellectual capital and innovation on the relationship between transformational and transactional leadership and organizational performance in Jordanian banks located in Irbid city. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire that targeted 350 respondents resulted in 298 usable ones with a response rate of 85.14 percent. To test the research hypotheses, a structural equation model was conducted, in addition to descriptive statistics that provided background on the respondents. Findings The findings indicate that transformational and transactional leadership relate positively to organizational performance. The results also support the argument that intellectual capital and innovation played mediating roles in transformational and transactional leadership and organizational performance. Practical implications The present study provides managers with empirical proof that possessing strong intellectual capital in its three dimensions seems to help the banking sector in Jordan to reinforce their ability to generate both radical and incremental innovation. Also, applying an effective leadership style will motivate and lead to superior performance. Originality/value Although papers have shown that leadership style is an important factor influencing employees' performance and outcomes, this is one of the few studies that investigates the interrelationships between leadership styles, intellectual capital, and innovation on organization performance. Furthermore, it is the first to test the model on the banking sector in Jordan.
Leadership in healthcare education
Effective leadership is a complex and highly valued component of healthcare education, increasingly recognised as essential to the delivery of high standards of education, research and clinical practice. To meet the needs of healthcare in the twenty-first century, competent leaders will be increasingly important across all health professions, including allied health, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, and medicine. Consequently, incorporation of leadership training and development should be part of all health professional curricula. A new type of leader is emerging: one who role models the balance between autonomy and accountability, emphasises teamwork, and focuses on improving patient outcomes. Healthcare education leaders are required to work effectively and collaboratively across discipline and organisational boundaries, where titles are not always linked to leadership roles. This paper briefly considers the current theories of leadership, and explores leadership skills and roles within the context of healthcare education.

Academic leadership capability framework: a comparison of its compatibility and applicability in Australia, New Zealand, and Malaysia
Previous studies have shown that leadership capabilities and managerial competencies are related to leadership performance effectiveness, i.e., higher capabilities and competencies are associated with higher performance effectiveness, and vice versa. Among the studies focusing on these qualities in academic settings, two recent studies in Australia and New Zealand in 2008 and 2012 may be stated which were guided by a conceptual framework known as the Academic Leadership Capability Framework. This framework became the basis for the construction of a survey instrument in order to assess five vital components of university leadership. The framework and the survey instrument were employed for a similar study in Malaysian public and private universities. In performing descriptive analysis, the results of the three studies were compared. This analysis revealed interesting similarities and differences among academic leaders within the three countries which can be used as a base for further policy making, and characterizing effective leadership in higher education. In addition, inferential statistics techniques were employed to detect the impact of the University Type and Previous Experience outside higher education on capabilities, competencies, and performance of the Malaysian academic leaders.
