Big Bang Theory Makes Sense of Cosmic Facts; Matter Into Energy
Why should this mean the universe had no beginning? What \"extrapolated laboratory results\" lead to this conclusion? The idea of something existing without ever having begun is so alien to our framework of reality as to be virtually incomprehensible. Mr. [Eric J. Lerner] and his like-minded colleagues may be right about the Big Bang, but how can they exclude the possibility that the universe may have had some unfathomable beginning? Lastly, Mr. Lerner touches on the theory of dark matter -- the so-called missing mass of the universe -- and states that \"no evidence for such speculation exists.\" Yet astrophysicists tell us that the otherwise inexplicable kinetics of Mr. Lerner's galactic clusters provide strong observational evidence that the universe must contain much more matter than has yet been detected, which Mr. Lerner neglects to mention.
Big Bang Theory Makes Sense of Cosmic Facts; No Contradiction
The sizes of the vast ribbons of galaxies that Eric J. Lerner refers to (Op-Ed, June 3) come straight out of the Big Bang model itself.

Big Bang Theory Makes Sense of Cosmic Facts
Eric J. Lerner's obituary for the Big Bang theory of the universe's origins (Op-Ed, June 3) is premature. He points to recent work on voids and filaments in the large-scale distribution of galaxies as a powerful challenge to understanding the history of the universe -- that is why my colleagues and I have devoted our efforts to observing these structures (and why the Arnold D. Frese Foundation has just given Harvard $3 million for a telescope to help study them). But his conclusion that we should abandon the overall picture of a universe that has expanded from a dense, hot past some 20 billion years ago does not follow.
Did the Big Bang Happen?
In any case, a reviewer has an obligation to report accurately what the author writes. Anyone reading my book even cursorily knows that the critique of the big bang that it presents is mainly the work of Hannes Alfven, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1970, a few years after formulating his alternative approach, plasma cosmology. As a plasma physicist myself, I have contributed to elaborating this alternative, but the main ideas are Mr. Alfven's and my book makes this quite clear. Yet Mr. [Paul Davies] repeatedly attributes the entire attack on the big bang to me alone, barely mentioning Mr. Alfven, and even refers to the alternative approach as \"Mr. [ERIC J. LERNER]'s plasma cosmology.\"
Harass slap vs. ganja biz
of Rocky Hill, Conn., says management accused her of having \"an attitude\" because she didn't want to hear bosses describe their sexual prowess in detail, objected when one of them ran his fingers through her hair and another stole her prescription pills. [Jessica Pelletier] says one boss, Eric Lerner, (far right) house counsel to Tikun Olam Inc., was addicted to drugs and hounded her to share her medications with him, the lawsuit says.
