Russian Arctic Land Forces and Defense Trends Redefined by NATO and Ukraine
This article argues that Russia's Arctic land forces have been weakened by the Russia-Ukraine War and NATO's northern expansion, creating a strategic window for Western militaries to bolster their Arctic capabilities. Unlike existing studies that focus on maritime operations and the Northern Sea Route, it integrates technical assessments of ground-based Arctic platforms with analysis of military-district reforms. Using a mixed methodology that incorporates equipment specifications, Russian government documents, media reports, and NATO strategic-response evaluations, this article constructs a comprehensive baseline understanding of Russia's Arctic land-force potential and readiness. Policy and military practitioners will benefit from actionable insights into Arctic force-design shifts, equipment vulnerabilities, and strategic recommendations to exploit the temporary imbalance between NATO and Russian readiness.

Berkeley, A Look Back: Country club planned as center of social life
\"Plans to make the Berkeley Country Club the finest course in America were outlined last night at a special meeting of the entire membership,\" the Berkeley Daily Gazette noted Oct. 21, 1937, seventy-five years ago. Lester W. Hink, one of Berkeley's leading businessmen, said \"There isn't a club in America with a more ideal spot,\" adding, \"We can accommodate at least 100 new members but we want to be 'choosey' and maintain the high type of membership we have maintained throughout these years.\" The 1938 Community Chest pledge drive was in full swing in October, 1937, and a half-page advertisement in the Oct. 30 Gazette made the case for contributing. \"Twenty-three Berkeley Community Chest Agencies are constantly fighting our community battle against hunger and undernourishment, against disease, against crime and delinquency, making Berkeley a better place in which to live\" the ad said.

'Peace' eloquently tells a Vietnam story
It's Richard Zuscak's impassioned, remonstrative portrayal of Morgan Lewis, David's soldier buddy, and the only man to survive in [David]'s unit, that represents the message that [Lester W. Paquin] is trying to impart. \"Memorial: David's Peace\" is not a political or ideological screed. It's not taking sides on the issue of going or not going to war. What it is doing is something far more basic - honoring those who serve their country and respecting the sacrifices that they make. It's a point that Morgan hammers home to [Josh] with a blistering combination of anger and compassion that Josh listens to with humble re-evaluation. Paquin also imbues his play with an all-encompassing multi-generational perspective when David's grandson, Kyle (Diego Cruz) tells David that he's going to the Middle East to serve his country, and can't comprehend why Vietnam vets were looked down upon by their own country.
