Theorizing digital cultural heritage : a critical discourse
In Theorizing Digital Cultural Heritage, experts offer a critical and theoretical appraisal of the uses of digital media by cultural heritage institutions. Previous discussions of cultural heritage and digital technology have left the subject largely unmapped in terms of critical theory; the essays in this volume offer this long-missing perspective on the challenges of using digital media in the research, preservation, management, interpretation, and representation of cultural heritage. The contributors -- scholars and practitioners from a range of relevant disciplines -- ground theory in practice, considering how digital technology might be used to transform institutional cultures, methods, and relationships with audiences. The contributors examine the relationship between material and digital objects in collections of art and indigenous artifacts; the implications of digital technology for knowledge creation, documentation, and the concept of authority; and the possibilities for \"virtual cultural heritage\" -- the preservation and interpretation of cultural and natural heritage through real-time, immersive, and interactive techniques. The essays in Theorizing Digital Cultural Heritage will serve as a resource for professionals, academics, and students in all fields of cultural heritage, including museums, libraries, galleries, archives, and archaeology, as well as those in education and information technology. The range of issues considered and the diverse disciplines and viewpoints represented point to new directions for an emerging field. - Publisher.
Critical Library Leadership
Critical Library Leadership: Managing Self and Others in Today's Academic Library provides practical, library-specific, hands-on tools that help us shape our approach to leadership and ourselves as leaders. It gives practical strategies for dealing with stress and addressing feelings of insecurity alongside managing the organization from an equity perspective that places people at the forefront. Each section offers a mixture of theory and research, lived experience, and practice that captures many different techniques you can apply to your own journey and organizational context in both formal and informal ways.
The high-impact digital library : innovative approaches for outreach and instruction
\"This book explores background information on outreach and instruction efforts by digital library practitioners, detailed survey results from practitioners themselves, and instructional ideas such as drop-in class sessions, course-integrated instruction, training, and ways digital library practitioners can contribute to the Open Educational Resources (OER) and open pedagogy movements\"-- Provided by publisher.
A bibliometric analysis of library automation software research from 2001-2022: evidence from the Web of Science (WoS)
Purpose The purpose of this study is to conduct a bibliometric analysis to discover the published information on the subject of “Library Automation Software.” Design/methodology/approach This study is based on bibliometric research to analyze the growth of literature on the subject area “Library Automation Software.” The data were retrieved from the leading database Web of Science to analyze the scholarly publications on the topic during 2001–2022. To analyze the bibliometric data on the subject, the VOSviewer, Biblioshiny and MS Excel software were used. Findings Results manifest that the topic of “Library Management Systems” has been greatly used by several authors as a title to publish their research work. The USA emerged as the most productive country. The most used keywords to retrieve literature on the topic were “Library Automation,” “Library Management Systems,” “KOHA,” “Integrated Library Systems” and “Open Source Software.” Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first bibliometric study in Pakistan that has been conducted to measure the productivity of literature at the international level on library automation.
Librarians’ perceptions about adoption and uses of the Koha integrated library software in Punjab, Pakistan
Purpose This study aims to find out the reasons of adopting Koha integrated library software, discovers the problems faced by librarians during its implementation, and gets the perceptions of librarians about the performances of Koha in Punjab, a province of Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach Survey method was used to collect the data through questionnaire from the purposefully selected sample (N = 66) of university librarians of Punjab, a province of Pakistan. Findings The librarians adopted Koha due to the availability of Web online public access catalog (OPAC), provision of MARC21 standards for cataloging and its free availability. During implementation, the librarians were faced with the problems of lack of technical skills, lack of knowledge about the Linux operating system, shortage of skilled manpower, slow internet speeds and approval from their organization. They highly rated the performance of the cataloguing, circulation, patron and OPAC modules of Koha. Originality/value This research provides a brief picture of librarians’ perceptions about Koha adoption and satisfaction levels. The findings highlighted the issues and problems faced during the implementation of Koha. This study will be helpful for librarians in the selection, implementation and usage of the Koha software in their libraries.
Application of FCM Clustering Algorithm in Digital Library Management System
Traditional library systems are gradually being replaced by digital libraries. Digital libraries are developing from simple database-based storage and retrieval to knowledge-based implementation. The fuzzy C-means (FCM) clustering algorithm is an example of data collection and data processing technology. It evaluates and draws conclusions based on mathematics, large data, and other technologies. In order to better improve the digital library management system, this paper applied FCM clustering algorithm to the digital library management system. Based on the in-depth study of the FCM clustering algorithm, this paper built a digital library management system. The clustering algorithm was used to cluster library borrowing records and reader information. It provided technical support and suggestions on library collection construction and book purchase and promoted book management to form a good spitting cycle. The experimental results extracted during the evaluation phase demonstrated that the overall error rate of the suggested FCM clustering algorithm for information clustering is 3.66%, which is better than the existing comparative models. This shows that applying the FCM clustering algorithm to a digital library management system has some practical significance.
Use, Accessibility, and Satisfaction of Librarians in Selected Higher Educational Institutions in Oyo State, Nigeria with Integrated Library Management Systems
This study was conducted to examine the use, accessibility, and satisfaction of librarians in selected higher educational institutions in Oyo State, Nigeria with integrated library management systems. Data were collected from 170-librarians, library officers and system analysts, using a questionnaire designed and administered by the researcher. The majority of the institution libraries use of PMB (PhpMyBibl) software and only one institution namely the University of Ibadan, Integrated Library Management Software (ILMS) and Dominican University make use of in-house software. Cataloguing module is the most deployed compared to other modules of the ILMS in use. The most available module of the ILMS is the cataloguing module while the library registration service is the most accessible service. Librarians with higher qualifications, who have lower positions at work, and less number of years in the services, are females, and younger in age expressed satisfaction with the ILMS compared to others. With regards to specific accessibility factors, only system quality, net benefits, availability, and affordability were significantly related to satisfaction of the librarians in respect of the use of the ILMS to meet their library services' needs. The number of years the librarians have spent in service, and the gender of the librarians are not significant variables in respect of the satisfaction of the librarians with the ILMS. The quality of service delivered by the systems, their accessibility, utilisation, adequacy, and acceptability which are ordinarily considered crucial factors, did not predict satisfaction with the use of the ILMS.
