Cisco Live lives it up at 25
So went the week of Cisco Live, the 25th anniversary of the annual conference of Cisco customers from around the world. And Cisco did the milestone birthday justice, with keynotes and conference sessions hammering home the determined message that Cisco and its customers will lead the march to \"Fast IT,\" and a stadium appreciation party rocked by Lenny Kravitz and Imagine Dragons. ACI is also Cisco's entry into the software-defined networking market, which has been viewed as a Cisco disruptor. [John Chambers] left no doubt about Cisco's intentions with SDN. Also on Day Two of its conference, Cisco gave an overview on how it spots and seeds market transitions in the making. It's a crowdsourcing effort with 80 technology scouts that identify and submit what they think the next big things are, says Joel Bion, senior vice president of Cisco Research and Advanced Development. Cisco then takes the top 10 trends to drive investments from its $2 billion Cisco Investments fund.

Chambers: We Should Have Killed Cisco Cius Earlier
\"Once you realize you're not going to reach the volumes you need, you should just stop,\" [John Chambers] said when asked what lessons Cisco learned from the demise of the [Cius]. \"We should have made our decision to exit the Cius market nine months ago,\" he said, when Cisco started recognizing the momentum of the iPad. \"We did not agree as crisply as we should have on strategy, what was our architecture to get there, and then what is our multiple phase roadmap to get there,\" Chambers said. \"You'll see us go back to the basics and consolidate collaboration under one group and prioritize what we want to do or not. You'll see us come down to a very simple definition of collaboration. It's built around four pillars: mobile, social, virtual, visual. And then you'll see us pull these pieces together in order of priority. \"Well run companies always have succession plans,\" he said. \"This is my family. Cisco won't have a stumble. We'll make sure that transition goes very, very well.\"

Halton police seeking auxiliary officers
\"We get three types of people who apply to the unit. The first is those who are thinking of becoming a police officer and think the experience might get them hired in the future. It tell them, 'No, it is a volunteer opportunity',\" said Halton Staff-Sgt. Rob Lloyd of Community Policing Support/Auxiliary Policing. \"We've got areal mixed bag of people, professionals and stay-at-home moms. It's what makes it a unique unit compared to our other groups of volunteers. We have some members who have been with the unit since 1989, and we've got people right out of university,\" Lloyd added. \"The members of the public don't see the difference though between the two,\" noted Lloyd. \"They sometimes get it (verbal abuse) as much as we do. Sometimes I don't know why they do it but that's why I respect them so much.\"
Drug shortage 'tense, but not critical' at St. Joseph's
\"There's no panic, but we've got to watch the supply very, very carefully,\" said hospital president Dr. David Higgins of the new routine at St. Joseph's Healthcare. \"They have been working through nights and weekends to ensure the flow continues with the medicines we need,\" [Rob Lloyd] said. \"Actually, things appear to be starting to settle out.\" The shortage by Quebec-based Sandoz Canada, manufacturer of most of the drugs in question, has placed all Canadian hospitals \"on allocation,\" leaving them with only a fraction of their normal deliveries. So far, the hospitals say, surgeries and related procedures, such as endoscopies, are all proceeding and there has been no impact on general patient care.
Instant online info definitely not Dr. Google
\"The reason we want to make this investment is because ClinicalConnect has proven to be a terrific tool for helping physicians, clinicians and hospital staff look at patients' records and share them no matter where they are,\" said Greg Reed, president and CEO of eHealth Ontario. ClinicalConnect was first implemented in the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network and later expanded to the Waterloo Wellington LHIN. More than 2,500 health care providers can now access and share information in real time across LHIN boundaries whether they were treated in Hamilton or received testing in Kitchener. Patients of almost 600 clinicians will benefit from the expansion, eHealth said a release. In the HNHB LHIN, 22 hospital sites including the Juravinski Cancer Centre and the HNHB Community Care Access Centre are using ClinicalConnect to check on patients' medical histories with the click of a mouse.
