15. YÜZYILDAN 20. YÜZYILA GÜMÜLCİNE’DE BİR OSMANLI EĞİTİM KURUMU OLARAK AHİ ALİ (SOHTALAR/SOFTALAR) MEDRESESİ VE ZAVİYESİ EVKÂFI
2025
After the Ottoman Empire began settling in the Rumelia territories, they aimed to establish a permanent presence by facilitating the settlement of Muslim Turks from Anatolia and establishing religious, social, and economic institutions and structures through waqfs (endowments). As one of the first places to be conquered in the second half of the 14th century, the settlement process began even in Komotini. The number of structures needed by the community, such as mosques, masjids, zawiyahs, tekkes, and madrasahs, increased in the city, thanks to establishment of waqfs throughout the 15th century. The first madrasa in the city was built in 1455 by Ahi Ali, who established a waqf for this purpose. Ahi Ali, a wealthy figure in the city during that period, not only lent his name to the madrasa but also provided both material and spiritual support to the Börkçüler Zawiyah, which became known by his name in the 16th century. Consequently, the madrasa and the zawiyah became closely associated. These institutions continued to exist even into the 20th century when the Ottoman Empire lost control over Komotini. Through documents and registers accessed in the archives of Turkey and Greece, we have identified Ahi Ali’s origins and the religious and worldly motivations that led him to establish the waqf. We have also documented the movable and immovable properties he endowed, the accounting of cash endowments contributed by the people of Komotini- particularly from the 19th century onwards- and the expenditures made for the madrasa. Thanks to records kept during the period of Greek administration in the 20th century, we obtained information about the waqf’s assets, including its movable and immovable properties, income, books in the madrasa, and other belongings. Additionally, we have attempted to partially explain how Ahi Ali was recognized and remembered by the ruling class and the people of Komotini from the 18th century onwards. Thus, we have researched and examined the first madrasa of Komotini from its establishment up to the first quarter of the 20th century, based on available resources and data.

Archive of the Matrimonial Court of Sălişte. Sources for the History of Women in Modern Transylvania
2024
Very little is known about the family life of Transylvanian women in the modern era. The main explanation is related to the insufficient exploitation of sources. Due to the richness, variety and complexity of the judicial-ecclesiastical archives, we have started building a database on divorce in Airtable based on records from the Sălişte, the main village of Mărginimea Sibiului, which has a unique, well-preserved documentary heritage. The ecclesiastical archive is kept at the Museum of the Orthodox Deanery of Sălişte in good condition, undamaged. Although the dissolution of marriage was a marginal phenomenon, the time has come to open the discussion for a debate on the sources and to take some steps forward in this research avenue. The article provides a description of the most important documents related to divorce, with a focus on content, structure, form, style, classification. The advantages but also the limits of matrimonial files are presented, which place the analysis scheme on the border between family history, historical demography, history of law, history of women, history of the church, rural history, history of feelings. The quality of the sources gives us the opportunity to identify divorce patterns characteristic of a highly individualized region within the Transylvanian area.

Powstańcza działalność Mariana Dubieckiego – sekretarza Rusi w Rządzie Narodowym 1863 roku
2024
The aim of the article is to present the insurgent activity of Marian Dubiecki, secretary of Ruthenia in the Polish National Government of January Uprising. During his tenure, he was one of Romuald Traugutt’s closest collaborators, occupying the outbuilding next to his apartment, and a person who introduced the later dictator at the meeting of The Polish National Government. Dubiecki’s duties included correspondence with other representatives of the insurgent administration and negotiations with the “Progressive Ruthenia Group”. After minister of state Józef Kajetan Janowski left Warsaw, the secretary of Ruthenia undertook action to combine both functions. As a result of his insurgent activity, Marian Dubiecki was arrested and sentenced to exile, from which he returned in 1883. The figure of the secretary of Ruthenia has not yet been the subject of an extensive historiographical research that would comprehensively analyze his biography.

Humniccy herbu Gozdawa w XV–XVII w. Studium genealogiczne
2025
The Humnicki family of Humniska, Gozdawa coat of arms, played a significant role in the Sanok region in the 15th and first half of the 16th centuries. They possessed considerable wealth and actively participated in the political life of the local community. Over time, the estates of the first members of the family were divided among the growing number of descendants. Nevertheless, the Humnicki family continued to be part of the local elite, holding land offices in Sanok district, and in the 17th century also acquired estates in the Przemyśl and Lviv districts. They maintained their social and political position until the end of the century. The few attempts to present the genealogy of this family should be considered generally unsuccessful, as they are full of various errors, mistakes, flaws, distortions, and inconsistencies. In this article, written based on extensive archival research, the author has made the necessary corrections and additions. He has presented a factually accurate, revised genealogy of this family, constructing a coherent family tree. He advanced a number of logically justified hypotheses. He supplemented his arguments with source references to those members of the family in question who, at this stage of research, could not be connected to the family tree he had constructed.

Ucieszne igraszki – gra z konwencją, widzem i jego erudycją. Paryskie gry, zabawy i zagadki z początku XVII wieku
2025
The article discusses printed games produced in 17th century Paris. It demonstrates contemporary popularity of entertainment that engaged the intellect and appealed to the recipient’s erudition. Such games were closely linked to the development of symbolic thinking in the modern era, as well as to the use of images as vehicles for hidden meanings. The article examines emblematic literature and its influence on the popularity of riddles, charades, and puns. The author analyses two graphic series: Enigmes joyeuses pour les bons esprits and La femme d’honneur. These were conceived as riddles with double meanings. Combining images and text, they offer a variety of interpretative possibilities, sometimes opposing. The main concept of both works is based on interaction with the viewer-reader, balancing innocence and promiscuity in interpretation. The author discusses both graphic series in the broader context of double images with hidden erotic content, showing as well that the prints provide a wealth of information on various courtly entertainments.
