Station ex-owners fail in court again; Action is a win for Cornerstone
Judge [Mary Ann Whipple]'s latest decision granted Cornerstone's motion to dismiss the case by \"abstaining from exercising jurisdiction,\" a legal move that she said \"significantly limits\" the possibility of an appeal. Earl Murry, a University of Toledo professor elected president of L&M Video's board in February, testified in Judge Whipple's court on June 11 that a new group of investors loaned up to $70,000 to L&M, and was willing to spend \"whatever it takes\" to make the station profitable. Mr. [Robert Pitts] called the allegation \"irresponsible,\" and said Mr. [Miller] and Mr. Murry \"can make all the claims that they want, but race has nothing to do with this.\" He said Cornerstone officials \"are very pleased with her ruling.
HIGH SCHOOLS / Bergtraum Merry After Stunning CK
Hard work, which brought the Blazers three straight PSAL titles back in the city, is finally starting to pay off. Christ the King has been city girls basketball's utopia for more than a decade, having made a seamless transition from program founder Vincent Cannizzaro to current coach Bob Mackey. But Friday's 67-59 Blazers win over the Royals in a Class A semifinal means more than just the end of Christ the King's amazing run. [Crystal McFadden] and [Mary Bergtraum]'s other big gun, senior Cindy Gonzalez, both knew about Christ the King when they were in junior high. It was the place, maybe the only place, for a good player to go and develop her game. But both Manhattanites showed loyalty to their borough and went to Bergtraum to play for a top coach, Ed Grezinsky. Tracey Wright is one of those Bergtraum sophs. She was a Christ the King freshman, a budding talent at 6-2 among a sea of over 6- foot Royals. She left because of financial hardship and headed straight for Bergtraum, where things weren't much different-save for all those championships.
