Is estuary reaching state of collapse?
by
Gosling, Melanie
in
MacLean, Rob
2012
Residents say that if the authorities know, they are not telling. \"The water in the front of my house is dead. There is nothing living in it. I always saw fish rising in the evenings, but nothing now. My son and his friends play waterpolo and for the first time I said: 'Don't go into the water, guys, I'm concerned,' \" [Rob MacLean] said. \"There've been hundreds and hundreds of dead fish over the last few weeks. It's never happened before, not in 27 years. I heard Kylie Hatton from the city say on the radio that this was just a seasonal thing. If it's seasonal how come we've not seen it before? Either the city council does not know what's happening or they do know and are not telling, which is even scarier.\"

Removing the San Clemente Dam will restore access to 25 miles of spawning and rearing habitat, critical to the South Central California Coast Steelhead s recovery. Restoring the river s ecological connectivity will also benefit other threatened species like the California red-legged frog. Enabling sediment to move past the dam will also help replenish sand supply to Carmel River beach and dunes, fortifying the beach and coastal area against sea level rise.

At his loftiest BBC best, he angrily berated Yorkston for delivering the live games to a company that \"may not have the money to pay\".
