Miscegenation and Competing Definitions of Race in Twentieth-Century Louisiana
Brattain focuses on racial laws and four major case studies from 20th century Louisiana in order to probe the meaning of race and miscegenation for one segregated but irrefutably interracial society in the Jim Crow South. He deals primarily on court records, including testimony, briefs, and exhibits, as well as the judicial decisions and reasoning behind the resolution of each case.

Bill would support Ariz. law
by
Spolar, Matthew
in
Marcus, Bruce
2011
The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Bruce Marcus, a Republican from Peterborough, says the state of New Hampshire \"fully supports the state of Arizona's immigration law.\" In April, the Arizona legislature passed a law requiring the police, \"when practical,\" to determine the immigration status of people they reasonably suspect are in the country illegally. Under the law, authorities would also be allowed to charge immigrants with a state crime for not carrying immigration documents. \"This law won't fix the challenges that we face in our state right now,\" she said. \"It won't fix the budget or create new jobs.\" \"We want to make sure that we're tightening our belt,\" [Al Baldasaro] said \"That's of interest to us - what's going on with the murders and everything out there on the borders (doesn't) happen here.\"

A priceless contribution
2014
Experts rarely concern themselves with why it happened. Unless libel is involved, it doesn't really matter. The reporter could have functioned out of ignorance or laziness. Reporters are people, and are not immune to preconceived notions that can subvert the professionalism of even the most experienced journalist. There may have been an adverse chemical reaction to somebody in your firm or a family fight at the journalist's home that morning.

Accounting firms face huge changes
1989
Just the same, [Bruce Marcus] feels, accounting is in for major changes in the next few years as the tradition-bound profession puts on the gloves and slugs it out for market share. In a telephone interview, Marcus, editor of the Marcus Report on Professional Services Marketing and author of a best-selling book, Competing for Clients, said talks leading toward the Arthur Young/ Ernst & Whinney merger had been going on for two years before agreement in principle was reached. \"If you're a giant company you need (an accounting firm) capable of dealing with all your branches in all the countries where you operate,\" Marcus explained.

Judge upholds Leopold convictions, lifts ban on running for public office
2014
[Wright] lifted [Dennis M. Sweeney]'s ban on [John R. Leopold] running for local, state or federal office during his five-year probation. Before he was elected twice as county executive, Leopold had been a delegate from District 31. Leopold's lawyer, Bruce Marcus, said he was pleased the court had agreed the ban was an \"impermissible sentencing condition.\" Marcus said Leopold would \"evaluate the significance of the opinion in light of the upcoming election.\" Marcus said it was too early to determine if he would appeal Wright's upholding of Leopold's convictions to the Court of Appeals, Maryland's highest court.

Leopold lawyer argues to overturn conviction
2014
[John R. Leopold]'s lawyer, Bruce Marcus, told a three-judge panel that prosecutors made a technical flaw when characterizing his actions as a crime. Leopold had the authority to give orders to his police detail, even though they were asked to work on his campaign, Marcus said. Marcus did not address lifting a ban on Leopold running for public office while he serves five years of probation. Retired Circuit Court Judge Dennis M. Sweeney banned Leopold from running for any local, state or federal office while he is on probation. Leopold's attorneys were in Anne Arundel Circuit Court last week seeking dismissal of another lawsuit filed against him by the American Civil Liberties Union. This one concerns dossiers allegedly compiled by the police officers assigned to protect Leopold.

This one concerns dossiers allegedly compiled by the police officers assigned to protect Leopold.
