This season, the Sabres hired [Rick Martin], the former French Connection sniper, to impart his philosophy on shooting and scoring to their players. Through 56 games this season, the Sabres have averaged 2.39 goals per game, up from 2.32 last season. And Martin believes he's making a difference. To that end, Martin teaches a series of drills he used as a player. Principal among them is the old standby of lining up 15 to 20 pucks in the slot and shooting at a target. Martin says these \"static drills\" improve both feel and fundamentals.

The Contra Costa County Coroner's Office identified the man as 26-year-old Brandon Graves. Police pronounced him dead at the scene after being called about 3 a.m. to Hillcrest Avenue, just past Laurel Road, Antioch police Sgt. Rick Martin said. \"The car hit the tree on the passenger side,\" he said. \"There wasn't anybody else inside.\"

Burst main shuts off village water

Rick Martin, Director of the village of B.L. Public Works Department, said a water main on Third Avenue near the corner of Hwy. 16 burst at around 8:30 a.m. Sept. 11 and consequently killed water pressure throughout most of the village. He said workers with the public works department were installing a storm catch basin in close proximity to the water main and inadvertently brushed the top of the main causing a hole.

Once the connections were made water was turned back on to businesses and residents but remained off between the valves in the new section until June 25,\" [Rick Martin] said. \"When that's done they'll put everything back to the original condition, that means paving the parking lot and sidewalks as they were before,\" Martin said.
