Beloved white oak in Harwood cut down Tree at Brick Church was estimated to be almost 300 years old
2015
\"Oh, it's a straw,\" [Johnson] lamented when the first 12-foot section, 50 inches across, was cut free, revealing a hollow center. \"We won't get our slice - it is rotted.\" \"It is a sad day,\" said the Rev. Alistair So, rector of All Hallows. \"The tree sprouted when the church was young,\" he said. A large white oak is removed limb by limb on Tuesday in front of All Hallows Episcopal Church, also known as the Brick Church, in Harwood. Church officials, who had noticed a die-off of leaves, had the tree cut down after consulting four arborists.; The huge tree was rotted through, stymieing efforts to get a true measure of its age, though it's believed to have been there for nearly three centuries. ; A crane holds limbs in place during the removal process. ; LEFT: One of the limbs of the large white oak in front of All Hallows Episcopal Church is lowered to the ground on Tuesday. Maybe when I was a kid and my dad would stop for fried chicken after a day sailing. Now, once a week - if I've been good - I let myself stop between photo assignments and grab a two-piece box from one of the many convenience store/gas station fried chicken suppliers. I have the county mapped out by these poultry purveyors from deep in the 'Dena down to Chesapeake Beach.
