The paper deals with applicability of the ‘memetic approach’ and ‘epidemiology of culture’ in present day folklore research. These theoretical models could be supplemented by certain ideas and hypotheses borrowed from actor-network theory and the cognitive science of religion. The development of contemporary folkloristic theorising could proceed from a new experimental ethnography that would combine memory and narrative studies, cognitive research and the theory of memes with more common or habitual methods of folklore research and cultural anthropology.

In 'The World Made Meme', Ryan Milner argues that memes, and the memetic process, are shaping public conversation. It's hard to imagine a major pop cultural or political moment that doesn't generate a constellation of memetic texts.

This study investigates the integration of advanced optimization algorithms within energy-intensive infrastructures and industrial plants. In fact, the authors focus on the dynamic interplay between computational intelligence and operational efficiency in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). In this context, energy optimization is thought of as a hybrid process that emerges at the intersection of engineered systems, environmental dynamics, and operational constraints. Despite the known energy-intensive nature of WWTPs, where pumps and blowers consume over 60% of total power, current methods lack systematic, real-time adaptability under variable conditions. To address this gap, the study proposes a computational framework that combines hydraulic simulation, manufacturer-based performance mapping, and a Memetic Algorithm (MA) capable of real-time optimization. The methodology synthesizes dynamic flow allocation, auto-tuning mutation, and step-by-step improvement search into a cohesive simulation environment, applied to a representative parallel-pump system. The MA’s dual capacity to explore global configurations and refine local adjustments reflects both static and kinetic aspects of optimization: the former grounded in physical system constraints, the latter shaped by fluctuating operational demands. Experimental results across several stochastic scenarios demonstrate consistent power savings (12.13%) over conventional control strategies. By bridging simulation modeling with optimization under uncertainty, this study contributes to sustainable operations management, offering a replicable, data-driven tool for advancing energy efficiency in infrastructure systems.

Digital predistortion of radio over fiber (RoF) link using hybrid Memetic algorithm

Despite their many advantages over other communication links, radio over fiber (RoF) links also suffer from nonlinearity. This limits the dynamic range performance of the RoF link. Linearization techniques like digital predistortion can be explored for mitigating this nonlinearity. A hybrid optimization algorithm called hybrid Memetic algorithm, which uses the benefits of both Tabu search algorithm and Memetic algorithm, is used for parameter estimation of the digital predistorter. Simulation results demonstrate that the hybrid Memetic algorithm offers very promising outcomes.

Do It for the Culture: The Case for Memes in Qualitative Research

Memes are a prominent feature of global life in the 21st century. The author asserts that memes are significant to current and future qualitative research. In particular, the text establishes memes as: (a) part of everyday communication, expression, and explanation, thus useful in qualitative research; (b) valuable cultural units and symbols; (c) forms of rapport building and cultivating relational research; (d) approaches that bolster and sustain remote data collection; (e) methods that infuse agency, humor, and creativity into the research process. The author then showcases distinctive ways memes can be effectively incorporated in qualitative research pursuits and publications. The article concludes with the necessity of data collection and representation approaches that advance the meaningfulness and cultural-relevance of qualitative inquiry.

Behavioural mimicry or herd behaviour of Generation Z? Social media interactions in the context of information overload

The article aimed to examine the relationship between Generation Z’s interactions on social networking sites in the context of herd behaviour and behavioural mimicry through central and peripheral content processing pathways. The study was conducted using the CAWI method on a group of 142 representatives of Generation Z from selected universities in Poland. Nonparametric tests were used for statistical analyses. In the case of information overload, approximately 20 % of respondents’ interactions on different social media platforms may result from behavioural mimicry and herd behaviours. This type of activity is influenced primarily by the observed number of interactions and the emotional nature of other users’ reactions. The observed differences are determined by gender, the type of social media platform, and related content specificity. Research limitations result from the specificity of the research sample in the context of its homogeneity and size. The theoretical contribution is related to the development of the cognitive-emotional-behavioural theory of memes about the imitation of interactions of social media users’ conditioned herd behaviour and behavioural mimicry. The novelty of the research lies in the application of the theoretical Elaboration Likelihood Model approach to the analysis of herd behaviour and behavioural mimicry in the context of research on the cognitive, emotional, and behavioural activities of various social media platform users.

The nature of management frameworks

A management framework (like the Business Model Canvas or SWOT) is a combination of interlinked items that support a particular approach to a specific objective. Various management frameworks are widely used even though their origins, adoption, and value remain vague. Previous research tried to decipher the adoption of these management frameworks, whereas considerably less attention was devoted to the theoretical explanation of the development and value of the frameworks. This paper investigates the nature of management frameworks in particular realms using analogical reasoning between biological and social systems, and mostly draws on memetics, intersubjective reality, and the network effect. By using memetics, the explanations on the origins of well-known frameworks are complemented. Second, the paper shows the role of the network effect in the growing value of a framework until it becomes an intersubjective reality. Finally, such a framework is explained as autopoietic within a particular realm.
