Effect of English Learning Motivation on Academic Performance Among English Majors in China: The Moderating Role of Certain Personality Traits
2023
Previous studies have explored the interrelationship among learning motivation, personality traits, and academic performance, but little is known about the role of personality traits in the relationship between foreign language learners' motivation and academic performance, especially in the Chinese setting, where English is taken as a compulsory course in universities.
This study aimed to fill the gap by investigating the relationship between English learning motivation and academic performance among English majors in China and identifying the moderating role of certain personality traits, sequentially providing some implications for improving college English teaching strategies in China.
English majors (N=273) from different types of universities in China were recruited to complete the revised version of the English learning motivation scale and big five personality traits scales via an online survey platform. Descriptive statistics, correlation analyses and hierarchical regression analyses were performed to explore the relationships among the three variables.
Results demonstrated that English learning motivation and openness both significantly influenced academic performance and significant interaction effects were found between English learning motivation and agreeableness. Specifically, agreeableness partially moderated the relationship between English learning motivation and academic performance, and English learning motivation had a positive effect on academic performance only for learners with lower levels of agreeableness.
These findings not only addressed the gap of the moderating role of personality traits in the motivation-performance relationship but also extended our knowledge of the roles of English learning motivation and certain personality traits in English learning within the context of China, where English is taken as a foreign language, thus providing practical suggestions for college English teachers and researchers in China to improve students academic performance.

Young Generation’s Mobile Payment Adoption Behavior: Analysis Based on an Extended UTAUT Model
2021
Younger generations comprise an essential segment for the mobile payment market to prosper. However, empirical evidence of the drivers/barriers of the young generation’s adoption of mobile payment has been inconclusive. This study intends to advance the body of knowledge on this subject based on the extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), incorporating the young generation’s risk perception and bonus/rewards provided by the mobile-pay firms. To this end, 295 samples with the majority being more tech-savvy, namely generation Y and generation Z, were collected from an online survey in Taiwan. The empirical results in this study demonstrate the uniquely positive effect of social influence on the young generations’ behavioral intention to adopt mobile payment. While behavioral intention and promotional activities are the drivers of the young generation’s actual usage of mobile payment, perceived risks are found to exert a negative impact, reflecting the risk-averse preferences of the young generation in Taiwan. The ignorable moderation effect of gender, on the other hand, suggests the absence of a gender gap in the use of mobile payment among the young generations. The findings in this research have important implications for the development of promotion programs motivating the young generation’s adoption of mobile payment.

Green Financing, Energy Transformation, and the Moderating Effect of Digital Economy in Developing Countries
2024
The energy sector in many developing nations faces the difficulty of insufficient financing throughout the low-carbon transition, highlighting the importance of international green financing in alleviating financial constraints. The advancement of digital technology could facilitate green financing for energy transition in the digital economy, but this statement lacks empirical evidence. The primary objective of this research is to investigate the impact of international green financing on low-carbon energy transformation in developing nations. Additionally, we investigate the moderating role of digital economy between the two. Our findings validate the favorable impact of international green financing on low-carbon energy transformation, and this impact is particularly evident for hydro and wind energy consumption. We show that this beneficial effect is greater for low-income countries or regions with high levels of energy transition. We also provide evidence of the positive moderation effects of digital economy and find that its effects are still present in the transition to hydro and wind energy. This research helps to broaden green financing channels for the energy sector in developing countries, especially from the perspective of digital economy.

The authors used a specific disclosure index drawing on data collected from 73 listed firms in France, Germany, Italy and the UK. Data covering the period from 2011 to 2013 were analyzed using six regression models.FindingsFirm size has a moderating effect on the relationship between RC and some variables linked to firm performance.Originality/valueThe study combines an internal and external perspective to investigate the interplay between firms and market environments, and therefore, enriches the ongoing debate concerning the relationship between RC and firm performance. The Influence of China´s Outward FDI in RCEO Countries on Bilateral Trade: The Mediating Role of the Digital Economy
2026
This study employs an extended gravity model to assess the impact of China’s direct investment in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) member countries on trade. After measuring the digital economy levels of these countries using principal component analysis, a mediation effect model is applied to examine whether the digital economy serves as an intermediary variable. The results indicate that China’s direct investment in RCEP countries has a positive impact on China’s exports, imports and total trade value with these countries. Moreover, the digital economy plays a positive mediating role in facilitating these trade-enhancing effects.

Mediating and moderating effects of cognitive flexibility in the relationship between social media addiction and phubbing
2024
Presently, social media is widely used worldwide among different populations. Therefore, phubbing rapidly became a popular phenomenon in our daily life. However, little is known about the underlying mechanism and interaction between social media use and phubbing. Therefore, this research examines the mediating and moderating role of cognitive flexibility in the association between social media addiction and phubbing. Participants were 385 university students (280 females) studying at a state university in eastern Turkey and completed the self-reported measures of cognitive flexibility, social media addiction, and phubbing. The results showed that cognitive flexibility mediated and moderated the effect of social media addiction on phubbing. These findings may contribute to the discussion around the psychological consequences of using social media alongside increasing awareness about factors affecting and explaining the association between social media use and phubbing, which have important implications for research and practice.

emissions for all income panels whilst the moderating effect of TO appears to be a key degrading factor of environmental quality in low- and middle-income countries. In addition, TO’s interaction with GDP growth is found to negatively affect environmental quality across all income groups. Given that global economies are on the verge of returning to pre-pandemic levels of industrial operations along with emissions in the wake of the failure of COP26 and that COVID-19 has reminded the world the urgency of developing sustainable approaches in fostering ‘green economic growth’ models; a host of policy measures are proposed in support of this whilst their likely implications are discussed with reference to different income level countries.

2021
High-quality development has recently become an inevitable requirement for sustainable and healthy economic development in China, which pursues a sustainable ecology and a happy society for people while developing economy. Entrepreneurship is believed to be the essence of enterprise and one of the important factors of social economic development. This paper uses triple bottom line of sustainable development to measure high-quality economic development and studies the mutual influences between entrepreneurship and triple bottom line of sustainable development. Furthermore, this paper uses three moderating variables to study the moderation effect, including business environmental index, environmental regulation and foreign direct investment. The empirical results show that there exists a close relationship between entrepreneurship and triple bottom line of sustainable development. There are different influences of entrepreneurship and triple bottom line of sustainable development in different areas in China. The results also show that the business environment and foreign direct investment not only have direct impacts but also moderation effects on entrepreneurship towards triple bottom line of sustainable development. Environmental regulation affects environmental pollution only by the moderation effect towards entrepreneurship, and the effects are different in various areas.
