\"The media reported this Arakan news very quickly which could lead to instability,\" [Myint Swe] told a press conference hosted by the Rangoon authorities at 7 pm on Sunday. \"This is a very important time in Burma so when reporting the news you should be aware of your responsibilities rather than just being competitive with your rival journals.\" \"The information department takes care of censorship as well as if there is any violation of the laws so journals concerned will be charged,\" warned Myint Swe. \"This is advance notice.\" \"Most of the media have been maintaining their ethics but because some broke the rules the censorship board is trying to regain control over everyone,\" a journalist told The Irrawaddy. \"It is impossible that the censorship board will be abolished by June [to make way for a new media law].\"

Text of report by Wai Phyo [Myint Swe] from \"News\" section entitled: \"Analysts: Pyinmana move won't stop Yangon growth\" in English by Burmese newspaper The Myanmar Times website on 20 January Local analysts agree that the government's move to Pyinmana will have little effect on Yangon's [Rangoon's] position as the country's commercial hub. The government last November confirmed it was moving its ministries to a new administrative capital on the outskirts of Pyinmana. Officials said it will be easier to steer national development from the new location 320 kilometres north of Yangon.

He said, responsible personnel need to be aware in order to control and supervise the people so that the noble objectives of Myanmar Traditional Maha Thingyan Festival are upheld. They should see that the dress code and social behaviour are not against Myanmar culture and Buddhist teaching; rough water throwing causing danger and harm should be avoided; speaking, singing, or engaging in skits and acts directly or indirectly undermining the trust in the government; disturbing the peaceful enjoyment of the people, and inciting unrest causing disintegration of national unity should be prevented.

Strong demand from advertisers was another reason why broadcasts had been extended from 7 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., said U Hla Myint Swe, head of Yangon City Development Committee's Public Relations and Information Department, which operates and manages the station.
