The International Ambitions of Mao and Nehru
2011,2012
Why do leaders sometimes challenge, rather than accept, the international structures that surround their states? In The International Ambitions of Mao and Nehru, Andrew Kennedy answers this question through in-depth studies of Chinese foreign policy under Mao Zedong and Indian foreign policy under Jawaharlal Nehru. Drawing on international relations theory and psychological research, Kennedy offers a new theoretical explanation for bold leadership in foreign policy, one that stresses the beliefs that leaders develop about the 'national efficacy' of their states. He shows how this approach illuminates several of Mao and Nehru's most important military and diplomatic decisions, drawing on archival evidence and primary source materials from China, India, the United States and the United Kingdom. A rare blend of theoretical innovation and historical scholarship, The International Ambitions of Mao and Nehru is a fascinating portrait of how foreign policy decisions are made.
Windows into the Past
2009
Judith M. Brown, one of the leading historians of South Asia,
provides an original and thought-provoking strategy for conducting
and presenting historical research in her latest book, Windows
into the Past . Brown looks at how varieties of \"life history\"
that focus on the lives of institutions and families, as well as
individuals, offer a broad and rich means of studying history. Her
distinctively creative approach differs from traditional historical
biography in that it explores a variety of \"life histories\" and
shows us how they become invaluable windows into the past.
Following her introduction, \"The Practice of History,\" Brown
opens windows on the history of South Asia. She begins with the
life history of an educational institution, Balliol College,
Oxford, and tracks the interrelationship between Britain and India
through the lives of the British and Indian men who were educated
there. She then demonstrates the significance of family life
history, showing that by observing patterns of family life over
several generations, it is possible to gain insight into the
experiences of groups of people who rarely left historical
documents about themselves, particularly South Asian women.
Finally, Brown uses the life history of two prominent individuals,
Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, to examine questions about the
nature of Indian nationalism and the emergent Indian state.
Imagining Nations, Creating States: Nehru, Ben-Gurion and an Analogical Study of India and Israel in Post-colonial Asia
2021
Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister (1947-64), and David Ben-Gurion, Israel's first Prime Minister (1948-54; 1955-63), played substantial roles in shaping two modern nation-states in post-Colonial Asia. The article is anchored by a comparative study of the two leaders who influenced nation-building through their individual political values and ideological convictions. The key question posed here is what similarities existed in the nation-building roles these figures played and how they may have contributed to the trajectories followed by their respective nations. Nehru and Ben-Gurion were both modernists in terms of their political visions of a secular, socialist-democratic and egalitarian state. Although the two men never met and remained on non-speaking terms because India had reservations about forging ties with Israel, they both represented qualities of leadership in Asia.

Nehru, Jawaharlal - Political and social views
2012,2011
The 1950s in India were a crucial transition phase where the legacy and institutions of British rule had to be transformed to fit the needs of a post-colonial state. This period is closely associated with India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru (1947 - 64). Selecting three key policies closely associated with him, the book traces the political origins of the Panchasheela Agreement with China in 1954, the Hindu Code Bills of 1955 and 1956 and the founding of the Planning Commission in 1950. Each provides a window into the compulsions of Indian domestic politics at the time as well as the parameters of parliamentary debate.
The book goes on to discuss how these policies correspond to the pillars of Nehru's vision for a modern, independent India that encapsulated socialism, nonalignment and secularism and assesses their long-run impact in Indian politics. With a growing recognition of the resilience of India's political arrangements, the analysis is particularly relevant to those interested in the politics of transition and modernisation, and contributes to studies on Political Institutions and South Asian Politics.

Optimization of Fruit growth and Developments of guava (Psidium guajava l.) cv. l-49 Using Fertilizer & Bioinoculants
2024
ABSTRACT A field experiment was carried out during the year 2022-23 & 2023-24 at Fruit Research Station Imaliya, Department of Horticulture, Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh to find out the effect of Nutrients and Bioinoculants on fruit growth, development and yield of guava. MATERIALS AND METHODS Present study was carried out during the year 2022-23 & 2023-24 at Fruit Research Station Imaliya, Department of Horticulture, Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh to find out the effect of Nutrients and Bioinoculants on fruit growth, development and yield of guava on twelve-year-old of Guava planted at a spacing of 3 m x 3 m. The experiment was conducted in a Factorial Randomized Block Design with three replications. The treatment combinations T9 (100% RDF + Biofertisol 200 ml) recorded maximum number of fruits (107.03), fruit length (7.30 cm) and fruit width (7.47 cm), fruit weight (246.36 g), fruit volume (240.20 ml) and yield (26.37 kg) followed by T14 (75% RDF + Biofertisol 200 ml) which recorded number of fruits (106.37), fruit length (7.28 cm) and fruit width (7.44 cm), fruit weight (243.55 g), fruit volume (237.26 ml) and yield (25.90 kg), whereas the minimum number of fruits (92.97), fruit length (6.57 cm) and fruit width (6.76 cm), fruit weight (203.33 g), fruit volume (197.15 ml) and yield (18.91 kg) were recorded in control (T^. The presence of nitrogen positively influenced the vegetative growth of the plant, which produced more food material and when translocated into fruit bearing areas, enhanced the weight and size of the fruits.
