Model herd
Established 24 years ago by [Hubert Nicholson], the Heemskerk Ireland Ltd herd at Fennor, in the shadow of the historic Hill of Slane, ticks all of the boxes on the 'model' suckler herd checklist. \"I plan to have the cows calving between mid-February and mid-April and use synchronisation to keep the calving pattern compact\", explains Hubert. \"I don't want the calves too early in February because it is longer to get them out to grass -- there is no meal fed -- and I like to have the calves in good batches for ease of management\", he added.

Climate change forcing Ontario's wild turkeys further north
\"We're very excited,\" said Steve Nicholson of the Canadian Wild Turkey Federation, who added it's not unusual to see flocks of 60 to 100 birds in farm fields or meadows. \"They're easier to hunt than some of the big game like deer, but they have very keen eyesight and sense of hearing,\" Nicholson said. \"You can snap your fingers and they're gone.\" \"They're quite tasty,\" said Nicholson. \"You don't get more free-range than that.\"
An iced-tea crisis; a chat with Moyers; valentines
The Flanagan Memo RE: A midwinter iced-tea crisis (sort of); a conversation before \"An Evening With Bill Moyers\"; some valentines. Every time I order iced tea during this time of year and the waiter or waitress tells me there isn't any - \"We don't serve it in winter\" is the usual explanation - I begin to feel like Jack Nicholson in that memorable diner scene from \"Five Easy Pieces.\" You'll recall that Nicholson wanted toast, which wasn't on the menu, so he ordered a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich on toast and asked the waitress to \"hold the bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise and just bring the toast.\" On Inauguration Day, Bill Moyers said he thought about Hubert H. Humphrey. I told Moyers that I did, too. And we both smiled. Well, I did, and although I was talking to Moyers by long-distance telephone, I could tell by the sound of his voice that he did, too.
Roger knows folks more famous than Hines and Berglund
Bob Berglund was at [Roger Andersen]'s home one night not long ago. The telephone rang and Roger answered it. A bit later, he returned. He worked at radio stations in Montana and then came back to Brown as a teacher, which is where he met Berglund. When WLOL needed a producer for the [John Hines]-Berglund show, Berglund recommended Roger. There are those who think Roger doesn't exist. They think that Hines is a ventriloquist. But that fits with Roger's quest for anonymity.
Programme introduction
Ottawa is turning into a town where there's a new twist on an old Hollywood iconic phrase: \"Is that a cheque in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?\" And so, the push is on to expand the rules governing...
