Neon green : a novel
\"It's the summer of 1994 in suburban Chicago: Forrest Gump is still in theaters, teens are reeling from the recent death of Kurt Cobain, and you can enter a sweepstakes for a spaceship from Jupiter to land in your backyard. Welcome to Margaret Wappler's slightly altered alternative '90s. Everything's pretty much as you remember it, except for the aliens.\"-- Provided by publisher.
Ninety 9
2013
In the 1990s, when music was recorded on cassettes and movies on VHS, Vanessa Berry was reacting to the loneliness of life in the suburbs by constructing imaginary worlds and identities from video hits, late-night music programs, band t-shirts, mixtapes and zines, and the 'dark energy' of the Goths. A memoir in essay form, Ninety9 is about the loneliness of adolescence, the importance of friendship, and the magical enclaves to be discovered in the city. Illustrated with the author's drawings and photos, it provides a guide to the end of the millennium for those who were too young to be there, and vivid memories for those who were.

1995
2015
A hinge moment in recent American history, 1995 was an exceptional year. Drawing on interviews, oral histories, memoirs, archival collections, and news reports, W. Joseph Campbell presents a vivid, detail-rich portrait of those memorable twelve months. This book offers fresh interpretations of the decisive moments of 1995, including the emergence of the Internet and the World Wide Web in mainstream American life; the bombing at Oklahoma City, the deadliest attack of domestic terrorism in U.S. history; the sensational \"Trial of the Century,\" at which O.J. Simpson faced charges of double murder; the U.S.-brokered negotiations at Dayton, Ohio, which ended the Bosnian War, Europe’s most vicious conflict since the Nazi era; and the first encounters at the White House between Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky, a liaison that culminated in a stunning scandal and the spectacle of the president’s impeachment and trial. As Campbell demonstrates in this absorbing chronicle, 1995 was a year of extraordinary events, a watershed at the turn of the millennium. The effects of that pivotal year reverberate still, marking the close of one century and the dawning of another.
Who will catch us as we fall
Haunted by a past that has kept her from Nairobi for over three years, Leena returns home to discover her family unchanged: her father is still a staunch patriot dreaming of a better country; her mother is still an arch traditionalist, unwilling or unable to let go of the past; and her brother, always the rebellious one, spends his days provoking the establishment as a political activist. When Leena meets a local Kikuyu artist whose past is linked to her own, the two begin a secret affair one that forces Leena to again question her place in a country she once called home. Interlinked with Leenas story is that of Jeffery: a corrupt policeman burdened with his own angers and regrets, and whose questionable actions have unexpected and catastrophic consequences for those closest to him. Spanning a period of twelve years, Who Will Catch Us As We Fall is a story of love, loss and identity in contemporary Kenya.
Momentous happenings. 1995
2002
1995 saw terrorism return to the US, ethic cleansing in the Balkans, and orbiting space crews set new records in endurance. In April, United States army veteran Timothy McVeigh set off a car bomb which destroyed a federal building in Oklahoma City, killing 168 people and causing widespread panic. McVeigh was later executed, in 2001. Meanwhile, in space, the Russians were setting records for their cosmonauts spending over 400 days in space. After the war in Bosnia, the United Nations charged 21 Bosnian Serb commanders with genocide and crimes against humanity.

Momentous happenings. 1997
2002
1997 was a year of justice, mourning and technology. The death of Jacques Cousteau was overshadowed, however, by the tragic demise on August 31, of the Princess of Wales in a car accident in Paris. Shortly after, the passing of Mother Teresa provoked an outpouring of tributes, from a world still reeling from Princess Diana’s sudden death. Justice was served when Carlos the Jackal faced trial for the murder of two French secret agents and a Lebanese informer. Gary Kasparov challenged and lost a game of chess to IBM Supercomputer, Deep Blue, the first time a computer had ever defeated a human in match play.

Momentous happenings. 1998
2002
1998 was a year of accusations of presidential sexual dalliances, as well as a new European currency. American President Bill Clinton was embarrassed by allegations of a relationship with White House Intern Monica Lewinsky. The lies continued into the new year, prompting an impeachment trial in early 1999. Later, Clinton had other matters on his mind, when the US and Britain started air strikes on Iraq, saying Baghdad would never co-operate with Arms Inspectors. At the same time, Europe announced the advent of new currency called the Euro.
