Our Profession's Role in Advocacy
2019
The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) should advocate for safety of the traveling public, new funding strategies, more balanced multimodal network solutions, addressing impacts on vulnerable road users, promoting health through active transportation, and the impact of micro-mobility solutions. Inherently, ITE should aspire to advocate for solutions that improve the safety of all users, while considering the long-term sustainability of the transportation network. Here, Belmore discusses the ITE's advocacy campaign.

The dialogic dimensions of knowing and understanding the Norman legacy in Chester
2019
Michael Bird and Thomas Wilson focus their attention directly on the voices of pupils, in dialogue with their teacher and with each other, as they draw inferences from differing sources about the Norman legacy in Chester. By carefully examining dialogue stimulated by these sources, Bird and Wilson demonstrate not only the role that prior knowledge plays in such interaction, shaping and constraining the understandings that can be developed, but also the critical role that the dialogue itself plays in shaping the knowledge that emerges collectively and for individuals.

2020 Developing Trends Report
2020
Developing Trends is an attempt to address the question, What will be relevant to practitioners within the next two years? The purpose of the report is to leverage ITE's collaborative spirit, make the business case for Council involvement, and push the boundaries through diverse, inclusive, and broad thought leadership. The report was made possible through great volunteer work of all Councils and Committees who identified statements about what topics are important to ITE members. It shows successful collaboration among ITE members with similar interests across different groups. Developing Trends will be published in February 2020 and made available the ITE website. The report will include more than two dozen single-page reports on a variety of cross-cutting topics. The categories include safety, operations, design, data, workforce, connected and automated vehicles (CAVs), ethics, and micromobility. Almost 80 percent of the reports cover safety topics, and about half talk about data-driven approaches and data analytics.
