Influence of Tempo and Rhythmic Unit in Musical Emotion Regulation
This article is based on the assumption of musical power to change the listener's mood. The paper studies the outcome of two experiments on the regulation of emotional states in a series of participants who listen to different auditions. The present research focuses on note value, an important musical cue related to rhythm. The influence of two concepts linked to note value is analyzed separately and discussed together. The two musical cues under investigation are tempo and rhythmic unit. The participants are asked to label music fragments by using opposite meaningful words belonging to four semantic scales, namely \"Tension\" (ranging from Relaxing to Stressing), \"Expressiveness\" (Expressionless to Expressive), \"Amusement\" (Boring to Amusing) and \"Attractiveness\" (Pleasant to Unpleasant). The participants also have to indicate how much they feel certain basic emotions while listening to each music excerpt. The rated emotions are \"Happiness,\" \"Surprise,\" and \"Sadness.\" This study makes it possible to draw some interesting conclusions about the associations between note value and emotions.
Automatic Music Transcription Using Fourier Transform for Monophonic and Polyphonic Audio File
Musical sheet is an important tool for musicians that enables musicians to communicate with each other and help musicians to learn a composition of a song. Sometimes, musicians face an obstacle when they cannot find the musical sheet to learn a new song or it may require payment to get the sheet. The solution for this problem is to learn the song by figuring out the composition of a song using music transcription. Music Transcription is the process of music information retrieval to produce musical notation. Music Transcription using a computational method often called Automatic Music Transcription by upload the audio file as an input and generate musical sheet. The proposed method is solved using Note Value Detection to separate windows by the detected note values and Fourier Transform to recognize the frequency from each window. This study is evaluating the system using three variables; note value, pitch accuracy, and extra notes. The study shows that note value and pitch detection gives a relatively small percentage error. Meanwhile, extra note detection gives a relatively moderate percentage error in every polyphonic file.
Perceiving Musical Note Values Causes Spatial Shift of Attention in Musicians
The Spatial-Numerical Association of Response Codes (SNARC) suggests the existence of an association between number magnitude and response position, with faster left-key responses to small numbers and faster right-key responses to large numbers. The attentional SNARC effect (Att-SNARC) suggests that perceiving numbers can also affect the allocation of spatial attention, causing a leftward (vs. rightward) target detection advantage after perceiving small (vs. large) numbers. Considering previous findings that revealed similar spatial association effects for both numbers and musical note values (i.e., the relative duration of notes), the aim of this study is to investigate whether presenting note values instead of numbers causes a spatial shift of attention in musicians. The results show an advantage in detecting a leftward (vs. rightward) target after perceiving small (vs. large) musical note values. The fact that musical note values cause a spatial shift of attention strongly suggests that musicians process numbers and note values in a similar manner.
Research on the intelligent teaching mode of college piano classroom based on big data technology
In this paper, firstly, under the perspective of big data, the innovation research of piano intelligent teaching mode and the application strategy of intelligent piano teaching mode under big data thinking are explained, respectively. Secondly, in music recognition in a college piano classroom, the piano music signal needs to be sampled, quantized and pre-processed to avoid the frequency bias caused by the low-frequency components of the piano music signal. Then, based on the big data technology, the piano intelligent teaching note recognition system is constructed by using the improved time domain algorithm and the improved time-frequency domain combination algorithm, and the recognition of note time value in piano intelligent teaching and the piano intelligent teaching note recognition system are studied and analyzed. The results show that the improved time-frequency domain combination is more effective in responding to the time-value information of piano music signals in recognition simulation. The note recognition system studied in this project has seen a recognition rate increase of almost 5% in system performance. This paper studies the application of intelligent piano teaching in professional learning in universities, which can lead to the development and popularity of intelligent teaching methods in piano classrooms.
Enriching the teaching of fractions through integrating mathematics and music
Background Mathematics education is a significant issue in the South African context. Learners' achievement levels are markedly low as suggested by both national and international studies. The teaching and learning of fractions in particular have been identified as challenging. Aim The aim of this article is to share some of the outcomes derived from a series of lessons in which aspects of music (note values) were integrated into the teaching of fractions in primary school. Setting The study was conducted in a Grade 5 class in an independent school in the Eastern Cape, with readily available resources at hand. Methods The broader study was an action research case study. It employed qualitative methods of data collection, based on cycles of critical reflection and adjustment, including feedback from learners and critical peers. Results Findings highlighted the value of integrating music and mathematics as a teaching and learning strategy. Learning support materials and activities that promoted curriculum integration were designed. The discussion highlights benefits of these integrated lessons. Conclusion We conclude by suggesting that teachers explore synergistic opportunities across mathematics and music as subjects. In particular, we suggest curriculum integration to support the teaching of fractions in the primary grades of schooling. Our hope is that this article will encourage teachers to develop their own integrated strategies for enriching their teaching of mathematics.

Global Services Supply Chain in Indonesia
This paper examines services sector liberalization and global production value chains in Indonesia, particularly focusing on the telecommunications sector. The study employs TiVA, Indonesia’s Input Output (I-O) Tables and sectoral-level data for analysis, as firm-level data is not available for Indonesia’s services sector. The value chain for the telecommunications services is also mapped to depict not just its contribution to the manufacturing sector, but also its importance for the overall growth of the economy. In addition, the paper delves into the regulatory framework governing the sector and the measures that can be taken to boost its progress.
Terrorisme et action internationale humanitaire d'urgence
In his keynote speech Yves Sandoz gave a detailed analysis of the consequences of terrorism for humanitarian action. In his text he convincingly argues that the legitimate security requirements and need to prevent terrorists threats should not weaken the respect for international humanitarian law. Nor should the distinction between the necessary political and security action, on the one hand, and the mandate and work of the humanitarian organizations, on the other hand be blurred. In the first place, he calls for a firm condemnation of terrorism. According to Yves Sandoz, we have to state and to repeat clearly: \"there is no good terrorism\". As a deliberate violent attack aimed primarily against civilians, terrorism is a serious breach of international humanitarian law, and has to be unequivocally condemned as such. Terrorism is not a new phenomenon and there are different forms of terrorism. However, the attacks on 11 September 2001 represented a major escalation of terrorism and there is also apotentia widespread threat not only against America but also against other members of the international community. Because of the very nature of terrorism, international humanitarian law does not cover terrorists as explicitly as combatants in international or internal conflicts. At the same time, however, it is clear that the core principles and protections of international humanitarian law also apply in the fight against terrorism and with respect to terrorists. Today, it is in the interests of all that the basic principles of international humanitarian law should be reaffirmed and respected by all members of the international community. A third important issue addressed by Yves Sandoz was the nature and independence of humanitarian organizations and the need to resist the temptation to enlist them in the \"war on terrorism\". The fact that humanitarian actors categorically reject and condemn terrorism should not lead to a weakening of the humanitarian character of their mandate and action. While humanitarian actors, like all organizations, have to evolve and to adapt to changing circumstances, this should not weaken the humanitarian character of their work. Finally, the keynote speaker reminded the conference once more of the importance of demonstrating a true solidarity with the poor and underprivileged in the world and of the urgent need to lay the bases of a just and universal peace in the world. The idea of permanent peace in the 21st century must not be seen as an illusion: it is a necessity.
