Où est l'erreur? Les budgets ouvriers au XIXesiècle selon Villermé
Dans The Rise of Market Culture, William M. Reddy a prétendu que Villermé s'était délibérément trompé dans son estimation d'un budget ouvrier pour noircir la condition ouvrière entraînant avec lui tous les historiens qui ont repris ses chiffres. Cette note montre que W. M. Reddy a mal lu Villermé, que les estimations de celui-ci reposent sur les différentes catégories d'ouvriers en usage dans l'industrie à cette époque, et que ses calculs sont parfaitement corrects. In the Rise of Market Culture William M. Reddy claimed that Villermé deliberately skewed his estimation of a worker's budget in order to bleaken the situation of workers. He further claimed that all historians have since relied on the figures. This note demonstrates that Reddy misread Villermé, who was not mistaken, and that his estimation was based on the various categories of workers in use at the time.
