Dosimetry for Radiopharmaceutical Therapy
In this publication the basic principles of radiation physics, imaging and non-imaging instrumentation used, measurement of the administered activity, calibration procedures and methods for obtaining quantitative information on the biodistribution of the radioactive drug to be used with radioisotopes relevant to therapy are specified. It also describes methods for segmentation and registration of images acquired at different time points, strategies for fitting and integration of activity measurements over the time of treatment, absorbed dose calculations and derived dosimetric indexes with methods to estimate the overall uncertainty of different radionuclide therapies. The aim of this book is to fill the existing gaps in education and training of medical physicists on methods for patient-specific dosimetry. The overall objective of this book is to highlight the tools and methodologies to assure that radiopharmaceutical therapy is implemented through a dosimetry-guided individualized treatment approach.
Advanced technology and particle physics - proceedings of the 7th international conference on ICATPP-7
This book features up-to-date technology applications to radiation detection. It synthesises several techniques of and approaches to radiation detection, covering a wide range of applications and addressing a large audience of experts and students. Many of the talks are in fact reviews of particular topics often not covered in standard books and other conferences, for instance, the medical physics section. To present these medical physics talks is crucial, since a large fraction of the community in medical physics are from the particle physics community. The same feature is true for astroparticle and space physics, which are relatively new fields. This book is unique in its scope. Except for IEEE, there is no other conference in the world that presents such a wide coverage of advanced technology applied to particle physics. However, unlike IEEE, more room is made in the book for reviews and general talks.
First observation of the decay B+ → π+μ+μ
A bstract A discovery of the rare decay B + → π + μ + μ − is presented. This decay is observed for the first time, with 5.2 σ significance. The observation is made using pp collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb −1 , collected with the LHCb detector. The measured branching fraction is (2.3 ± 0.6 (stat.) ± 0.1 (syst.))×10 −8 , and the ratio of the B + → π + μ + μ − and B + → K + μ + μ − branching fractions is measured to be 0.053 ± 0.014 (stat.) ± 0.001 (syst.).
Positron Emission Particle Tracking
This book provides both an accessible introduction to, and a comprehensive overview of, the PEPT technique, replete with interactive examples, usable algorithms and real PEPT data, allowing the reader to gain a deep understanding and practical, working knowledge of the methodology.

Advanced Nuclear Radiation Detectors
This book is a comprehensive guide to the current state-of-the-art science and technology involved in the analysis and development of gamma-ray nuclear materials for commercial, medical, industrial, military and space applications. Thoroughly compiled, it brings to novice and advanced readers all the topics required to jump-start investigations on gamma-ray materials and their growth.
Single-Photon Detection for Data Communication and Quantum Systems
This book shows the progress of integrated (thick) CMOS SPADs towards high photon detection probabilities and applications such as in low-cost consumer data communication and high-end single-photon counting for quantum applications. New research is introduced and comprehensively detailed.
Astroparticle, particle and space physics, detectors and medical physics applications
The exploration of the subnuclear world is done through increasingly complex experiments covering a wide range of energies and in a large variety of environments — from particle accelerators, underground detectors to satellites and space laboratories. For these research programs to succeed, novel techniques, new materials and new instrumentation need to be used in detectors, often on a large scale. Hence, particle physics is at the forefront of technological advancement and leads to numerous applications. Among these, medical applications have a particular importance due to the health and social benefits they bring. This volume reviews the advances made in all technological aspects of current experiments in the field.
