Vaccine hesitancy (VH) poses a significant challenge to achieving optimal vaccination coverages worldwide. Paediatric healthcare workers (PHCWs) are fundamental in promoting vaccination but often lack adequate training to address VH. We designed CONFIVAC, a short evidence-based training program to enhance PHCWs' effective behaviours, specific knowledge and communication skills in managing VH and fostering a culture of immunization in primary care. This study evaluates its effectiveness.
Mixed methods study including a cluster-randomized trial with 142 PHCWs in Barcelona and Central Catalonia, Spain, from October 2023 to February 2024 and a qualitative study. Paediatric teams were randomized into intervention (CONFIVAC) and control (standard care) arms. CONFIVAC included 12 h of online and in-person training on vaccine knowledge, communication strategies, and organizational tools. Participants answered self-administered questionnaires at baseline (T0) and four months later (T1). Key outcomes were vaccine-promoting behaviours (presumptive communication, anticipation of upcoming vaccines, and explicit vaccine recommendations) and self-perception of adequate training to handle VH. We performed logistic regression models to estimate odds ratios (OR) with 95 % confidence intervals using an intention-to-treat approach. Focus groups provided qualitative insights through thematic analysis.
At T1, PHCWs in the intervention arm were more likely to use presumptive communication (aOR:4.05 [2.30;7.15]) and anticipate upcoming vaccines (aOR:2.64 [1.50;4.65]) than controls. Explicitly recommending vaccination when encountering cases of VH did not reach statistical significance (aOR:1.75 [0.89;3.44]). Self-perception of adequate training was higher in the intervention arm (aOR:3.85 [2.10;7.03]). Satisfaction with the training was high. Focus group participants reported improved communication strategies, more empathy towards VH families, and increased confidence in managing VH situations.
CONFIVAC increased PHCWs' vaccine-promoting behaviours and self-efficacy, demonstrating the value of an accessible, evidence-based training program to support vaccination efforts in routine practice.

Congruence and Incongruence in Sickness Presenteeism and Emotional Labor With Job Burnout in Pediatric Nurses: A Multicenter Response Surface Analysis
2026
Pediatric nurses are particularly vulnerable to job burnout, which can negatively impact both care quality and workforce retention. Sickness presenteeism and emotional labor are prevalent in pediatric nursing environments and may interact to influence burnout, yet their combined effects remain.
This study investigated the joint association of sickness presenteeism and emotional labor with job burnout among pediatric nurses in China.
A multicenter cross-sectional study. Polynomial regression with response surface analysis was employed to assess the effects of congruence and incongruence between sickness presenteeism and emotional labor on burnout levels.
Participants reported moderate levels of both sickness presenteeism and emotional labor, alongside low levels of job burnout. Notably, job burnout was minimized when both sickness presenteeism and emotional labor were at moderate levels. In contrast, burnout was highest when both variables were either very high or very low (a
= 0.755, p < 0.01; a
= 0.113, p < 0.05). Furthermore, greater incongruence between sickness presenteeism and emotional labor was associated with increased job burnout (a
= 0.629, p < 0.01; a
= 0.125, p < 0.05).
This study found that the joint association of sickness presenteeism and emotional labor with job burnout among pediatric nurses is both linear and nonlinear, exhibiting a U-shaped pattern along congruence and incongruence lines. Job burnout was the highest when both sickness presenteeism and emotional labor were either very high or very low and when marked incongruence existed between them. These findings suggest that nursing managers should monitor sickness presenteeism and emotional labor, avoid extreme imbalance and incongruence, and foster a supportive work environment to mitigate job burnout.

Nurses play a critical role in preventing health care-acquired infections (HAIs) by applying infection control practices during hospitalization, in health care settings, and after patient discharge. Our aim was to evaluate the effect of an HAIs educational workshop on the knowledge, attitude, and practice of pediatric nurses at Al-Mezan Hospitals in Palestine.
A quasi-experimental study was conducted in 2022 among 44 pediatric nurses working in the PICU, NICU, pediatric ward, and nursery departments. Data were collected using demographic, knowledge, attitude, and practice questionnaires before and after the intervention. The educational workshop consisted of 4 sessions, each lasting 45 minutes. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 23, including descriptive statistics and paired
tests, with a significance level set at
< 0.05.
Post-intervention scores showed significant improvements: knowledge increased from 52.9 ± 3.3 to 61.9 ± 4.1, attitude from 44.1 ± 4.1 to 52.6 ± 3.4, and practice from 42.1 ± 5.7 to 53.3 ± 3.3. All changes were statistically significant (
≤ 0.001), indicating the effectiveness of the workshop.
The HAIs educational workshop significantly enhanced the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of pediatric nurses regarding infection control. These findings highlight the importance of continuous education and training programs to improve health care quality and patient safety.

Background
General self-efficacy is considered one of the most influential parameters affecting the quality of clinical practice and nurses’ perceived professional benefits (NPPB). Perceived organizational support (POS) is regarded as being central in understanding job-related attitudes, and it is important to enhance POS for nurses to maintain their current employment. NPPB can further reduce nurses’ job burnout and turn-over intention. Many studies have explored the relationships among general self-efficacy, POS, nursing practice environment (NPE) and NPPB. However, a moderating effect of NPE has not been fully explored in nurses, especially among paediatric nurses.
Methods
A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from July to October 2018 with 300 paediatric nurses from 3 Class A tertiary hospitals in Jilin Province. The respondents completed the General Self-Efficacy Scale, Perceived Organizational Support Scale, Practice Environment Scale and Nurses’ Perceived Professional Benefits Scale. The data were analyzed using path analysis and SPSS (version 23.0, IBM).
Results
General self-efficacy and POS were significantly positively associated with NPPB, which showed that the model had a good fit to the data. NPE was found to play a partial mediating role between POS and NPPB and also had a complete mediating role between general self-efficacy and NPPB.
Conclusions
The results suggest that general self-efficacy indirectly influences NPPB, and POS directly and indirectly influences NPPB by NPE. Effective measures should be taken to improve nurses’ practice environment in hospitals to raise nurses’ enthusiasm and confidence in their work.

Background
Pediatric nurses experience a wide rang of stressful events at work every day, which can trigger a lot of emotional responses. The objectives of this study were mainly to explore the potential interrelationships of occupational stress, coping styles and mental health among pediatric nurse.
Methods
A total of 381 pediatric nurses from Chongqing, China were recruited in this cross-sectional study. We performed this study based on a questionnaire survey that contained the Chinese Perceived Stress Scale (CPSS), Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire and Symptom-Checklist 90(SCL-90).
Results
The pediatric nurses reported having health risk stress(HRS) was 54.3%, and nurses with different medical professional titles, style of coping and profiles of mental health had significantly different occupational stress levels
(P
<
0.01)
. And with the application of the Spearman correlation analysis and Structural Equation Modelling were revealed a significant relationship among occupational stress, coping style and mental health. The positive coping style had a negative direct predictive effect on occupational stress (
β
=
-0.499, P
<
0.01
) and mental health symptoms (β = -0.115,
P
< 0.01), negative coping styles had positive predictive effect on occupational stress (β = 0.185,
P
< 0.01) and mental health symptoms (β = 0.205,
P
< 0.01). Occupational stress had significant impact on mental health symptoms (
β
= 0.416,
P
< 0.01), and it was played a part of mediating effect between coping style and mental health.
Conclusion
These findings demonstrated significant associations between occupational stress, coping style and mental health in pediatric nurses, and this SEM model highlighted that the potential prediction effects of occupational stress and coping styles for mental health and the mediated effect of occupational stress between coping style and mental health, which we believe facilitates the understanding of these associations. This model should be useful in the formulation of strategies to improve mental health level for this population.

Pediatric nurses constitute a critical workforce in Ghana due to the continuous and high-intensity demands of child care. However, their occupational health outcomes remain underexplored, particularly in northern Ghana. This study assessed the effect of night shift work on daytime sleepiness and physiological health among pediatric nurses in the Tamale Metropolis, Northern Ghana. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 175 pediatric nurses. A stratified sampling technique was used to ensure proportional representation of pediatric nurses from each health facility, followed by simple random sampling for participant selection. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire incorporating the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) and Night Shift Physiological Health Assessment Scale (NSPHAS). Appropriate inferential statistics were used, with statistical significance set at
p
< 0.05. The mean daytime sleepiness score following night shift work was 10.12 (SD = 5.55), with 20.6% of participants exhibiting severe excessive daytime sleepiness. The highest chance of dozing was reported when lying down to rest in the afternoon (31.4%). Sleep disturbances recorded the highest mean physiological health score (2.87 ± 0.98), followed by gastrointestinal disturbances and eating habit disruptions (2.29 ± 0.91), and cardiovascular and physical strain (2.28 ± 0.91). Significant differences in physiological health outcomes were also observed across sociodemographic and work-related characteristics (
p
< 0.05). Night shift work is associated with increased daytime sleepiness and physiological health disturbances among pediatric nurses. Context specific interventions, including improved shift scheduling and targeted sleep health education, may help reduce these adverse outcomes.

Crying by healthcare professionals in the medical setting is a common but understudied phenomenon. We aimed to develop a questionnaire which measures the attitudes of parent towards crying pediatricians and pediatric nurses. We assessed reliability and validity in a group of parents of children who are living with, have died from or survived a life-limiting or life-threatening-condition. The development of the PACPN was based on modification of an existing questionnaire and expert input. In a cross-sectional-design, we assessed reliability and validity for both pediatricians and pediatric nurses. Dimensionality was assessed using principal component analysis (PCA). Cronbach’s alphas were calculated for each subscale. For construct validity, participants were asked to rate an additional question regarding the goal to measure parents’ attitudes towards crying pediatricians/pediatric nurses. We hypothesized that a higher score would have a strong positive correlation with the total score of the PACPN. At the end of the questionnaire, participants were asked to rate and comment the completeness. The developed 25-item questionnaire was completed by 116 parents. The PCA revealed two dimensions: (1) family’s circumstances; (2) personal circumstances of the pediatrician/pediatric nurse. Internal consistency was good (pediatricians, .81–.93; pediatric nurses, .83–.93). The hypothesis regarding construct validity was confirmed (Spearman’s rho = .71–.75). The completeness score was 7.7 (min–max 1–10, SD = 1.51).
Conclusion
: The PACPN showed good internal consistency and some degree of construct validity. We assume that by adding some items with nuance to the situation and the degree of crying the completeness of the questionnaire will improve.
What is Known:
•
Crying by HCPs in the medical setting, such as the hospital is common but HCPs have different attitudes towards this.
•
A questionnaire on crying physicians and nurses is available for assessing HCPs attitudes.
What is New:
•
The PACPN questionnaire is a simple tool for assessing parents’ attitudes towards crying pediatricians and pediatric nurses.
•
The PACPN showed good internal consistency and some degree of construct validity.

NOABSTRACTThis article employs a scoping review methodology, integrates knowledge and information about current pediatric nurses' practices and perceptions regarding family-centered care in pediatric settings.Published articles were retrieved from databases including EBSCO host, PubMed, Springer, Science Direct, Ovid, and CINAHL between 2013 and 2023.The finding shows a better understanding of pediatric nurses' perceptions of family-centered care in association with their clinical settings. However, the evidence indicates that integrating family-centered care components into health care services is difficult and confusing to nurses and is often not implemented in a clinical setting. As evidenced by this review, studies have consistently reported similar results; family-centered care was a good perception and understood by pediatric nurses as a concept but inconsistently used in a daily practice setting. This scoping review is the first phase in promoting a strategic plan to provide educational interventions for pediatric nurses to implement family-centered care in their daily practice settings. It's necessary to recognize pediatric nurses' perceptions and practices concerning family-centered care to provide optimal healthcare services in pediatric settings.

•Pediatric nurses’ knowledge and practices of nasogastric tube placement were studied.•Pediatric nurses’ knowledge and practices regarding nasogastric tube were inadequate.•Continuing education is required to address the knowledge gaps.
The study assesses pediatric nurses’ knowledge and routine practices in relation to nasogastric tube (NGT) placement and verification procedure. By investigating these aspects, the study seeks to contribute to the enhancement of patient safety and the improvement of pediatric nursing care in the context of NGT procedures by ensuring accurate NGT placement and minimizing complications in pediatric patients.
The study assesses pediatric nurses’ knowledge and practices of inserting and confirming the placement of NGTs among pediatric patients in the Asir Province, Saudi Arabia.
In this multihospital cross-sectional study, a total of 130 pediatric nurses participated. The study used a validated questionnaire comprising two parts: one focusing on the demographic data of the pediatric nurses and the other assessing their knowledge and practices regarding NGT placement and verification. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and linear regression tests in the SPSS software. The research question addressed in this study was to determine the knowledge and practice levels of pediatric nurses in relation to NGT placement and verification.
This study included 130 registered pediatric nurses, of whom more than half had unsatisfactory knowledge (53.1%) and incompetent practices (58.5%) related to NGT insertion. Linear regression associated with perceived nurses’ practices scores explained that knowledge score, years of experience, educational qualification, and training courses had a high-frequency positive effect on the practice score, with P < 0.01. Linear regression associated with perceived nurses’ knowledge scores explained that educational qualification, practice score, and training courses had a high-frequency positive effect on the knowledge score, with P < 0.01.
The study found that pediatric nurses’ knowledge and practices regarding NGT were inadequate. These results highlight the importance of implementing continuous educational programs to improve care practices pertaining to nasogastric tubes and enhance patient safety and quality of care.

Nursing students and nurses’ knowledge and attitudes regarding children’s pain: A comparative cross-sectional study
2019
Nurses encounter children who report of pain of diverse and unknown causes in their professional work. The current study therefore assessed and compared nursing students and nurses' knowledge and attitudes pertaining to children's pain in the Ghanaian context. The goal of this was to have a baseline information to guide the development and implementation of the content for a sustainable educational programme (short-course) for nursing students and nurses in Ghana.
Between October and December 2018, a cross-sectional study was carried out among 554 final year nursing students and 65 nurses in Ghana. The Pediatric Nurses Knowledge and Attitudes Survey Regarding Pain (PNKAS) was used to collect data from participants who were affiliated to four educational institutions and eight hospitals. Data were descriptively and inferentially analyzed using chi-square test of independence, independent samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA).
Our findings revealed that nursing students and nurses generally had unsatisfactory knowledge and attitudes towards pain management in children. Nursing students however, had significantly higher scores than nurses in the total PNKAS score and in 10 out of the 13 identified item-areas. Greater scores were obtained by nursing students in areas which were related to pain physiology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacology of analgesics and pain perceptions (p < .05). All the participating nurses could not accurately determine: the onset of action of orally administered analgesics, equianalgesia of orally administered morphine, and the right dosage of prescribed morphine for a child who consistently reported of moderate to severe pain.
Final year nursing students and nurses have unsatisfactory knowledge and attitudes regarding children's pain; which reiterates the need for urgent and effective educational efforts in this area. Regular in-service training should be offered to post-registration nurses to enhance their pediatric pain knowledge and attitudes for improved pain care in children.
