A digital intervention to reduce home-office workers’ sedentary behaviour: protocol for the evaluation of the Click2Move programme, a cluster randomised controlled trial
2025
Background
A new paradigm of hybrid working exists, with most office workers sharing their work between the office and home office environment. Working from home increases time spent or prolonged sitting, which is associated with an increased risk of chronic disease. Interventions to reduce sitting time, specifically designed for both the office and home-office environments, are required to address this growing public health issue. This study presents a protocol to evaluate the effectiveness of a digital intervention (Click2Move) to reduce sitting time and improve employees’ health and occupational wellbeing among hybrid office workers.
Methods
A two-arm cluster randomised controlled trial will be undertaken among hybrid office employees. In total, 200 employees will be recruited across four companies across Europe (The Netherlands, Spain, Ireland, and Slovenia). Participants within each company will be randomly allocated to the intervention or control group at the unit/cluster level. The intervention group will receive the novel multicomponent Click2Move intervention (including environmental, organisational, and individual strategies) for 12 months, and the control groups will maintain their usual work practices. The primary outcome will be occupational sedentary time measured via activPAL
3TM
at baseline and at 3, 6 and 12 months follow-up. Secondary outcomes will include device-based (activPAL
3TM
) and self-reported (Global Physical Activity Questionnaire and Workforce Sitting Questionnaire) physical activity and sedentary behaviour; self-reported musculoskeletal disorders (Standardised Nordic Questionnaire) and pain (Numeric Rating Scale); self-reported presenteeism and absenteeism (Health and Work Performance Questionnaire), job satisfaction (Need for Recovery scale) and fatigue (single-item 5-point Likert scale). Focus groups will be conducted with employees post-intervention. Linear mixed models, accounting for covariates, will be employed to determine the effects of the intervention. Additionally, we will perform a full process evaluation analysis.
Discussion
The proposed study will offer a comprehensive evaluation of a digital intervention aimed at reducing sedentary behaviour among hybrid office workers, offering practical solutions to enhance the health, wellbeing and productivity of a growing segment of the workplace.

Przyczynek do analizy kancelarii brytyjskiego Home Office w okresie międzywojennym
The article addresses the issue previously not analysed in Polish literature, namely the office work of British Home Office in the interwar period; its main objective is to provide a selective presentation of the activities of its chancery. The starting point for the considerations is a description of the most critical events in the history of the unit from its founding until World War II. Subsequent parts of the article present the substantive competencies of the office until 1939 and its organizational structure in the interwar period. The last part discusses the functioning of the Registry, along with a partial characterization of its clerical activities from the receipt of correspondence through to storage of case files. The main conclusion from the analysis is recognizing the Home Office Registry as a fully centralized chancery, operating based on daily registers.

Impact of transferring from “work from home” to office work on workers’ musculoskeletal disorder symptoms and mental health in Taiwan
2026
Background
This study aimed to investigate the impact of transitioning from work from home (WFH) to office work on workers’ musculoskeletal disorder symptoms (MSDs) and mental health among full-time Taiwanese employees who experienced both work modes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods
An anonymous self-report questionnaire was administered to 502 participants between June and November 2022. Participants’ characteristics, work-related behaviors, sitting posture, and changes in these factors during the transition from WFH to office work were collected. MSDs were assessed using the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ), and mental health was evaluated by a 5-item Brief Symptom Rating Scale (BSRS-5). Participants’ ergonomic work environment was also assessed while WFH. Analyses were conducted using chi-square, McNemar, paired-t tests, and logistic regression.
Results
The transition from WHF to office work was associated with significant increases in MSDs (22.51% reported an increase in MSD scores) and mental health scores (7.02 to 8.75), indicating worsening in these areas. Participants who remained the same or increased BSRS-5 scores had a significantly higher risk of experiencing worsened MSDs compared to those in the Improved group (aORs = 15.666 and 8.596, respectively, both
p
< 0.001). Participants who shifted to a more tense sitting posture had a significantly higher likelihood of worsening MSD scores upon returning to the office compared with the Improved group (aOR = 7.914,
p
= 0.011). Furthermore, participants with poor ergonomic working environments during remote work had a significantly higher risk of worsening MSD scores rather than improvement after returning to the office (aORs = 2.750,
p
= 0.018).
Conclusions
This study found that workers’ musculoskeletal disorder status deteriorated when they transitioned from remote work back to office-based work. Our findings suggest that this worsening of MSDs is significantly linked to a decline in mental health during the transition.

2022
The widespread adoption of remote and hybrid work due to COVID-19 calls for studies that explore the ramifications of these scenarios for office workers from an occupational health and wellbeing perspective. This paper aims to identify the needs and challenges in remote and hybrid work and the potential for a sustainable future work environment. Data collection involved two qualitative studies with a total of 53 participants, who represented employees, staff managers, and service/facility providers at three Swedish public service organisations (primarily healthcare and infrastructure administration). The results describe opportunities and challenges with the adoption of remote and hybrid work from individual, group, and leadership perspectives. The main benefits of remote work were increased flexibility, autonomy, work-life balance and individual performance, while major challenges were social aspects such as lost comradery and isolation. Hybrid work was perceived to provide the best of both worlds of remote and office work, given that employees and managers develop new skills and competencies to adjust to new ways of working. To achieve the expected individual and organisational benefits of hybrid work, employers are expected to provide support and flexibility and re-design the physical and digital workplaces to fit the new and diverse needs of employees.

\"As the bombs fell on Guernica and the Blitz terrorized Britons--even before Pearl Harbor--Americans watched and worried about attacks on their homeland. In May 1941, FDR established an Office of Civilian Defense to protect Americans from foreign and domestic threats. In this book, Matthew Dallek narrates the history of the Office of Civilian Defense. He uses the development of the precursor of \"homeland security\" as a way of examining constitutional questions about civil liberties; the role of government in propagandizing to its own citizens; competing visions among liberals and conservatives for establishing a plan to defend America; and federal, state, and local responsibilities for citizen protection. Much of the dramatic tension lies in the preparation of communities against attack and their fears of Japanese invasion along the Pacific Coast and Nazi invasion. So too there was a clash of visions between LaGuardia and Eleanor Roosevelt. The mayor argued that the OCD's focus had to be on preparing the country against German and Japanese attack, including conducting blackout drills, preparing evacuation plans, coordinating emergency medical teams, and protecting industrial plants and transportation centers. The First Lady believed the OCD should also promote social justice for African Americans and women and raise civilian morale. Their clashes frustrated FDR, who pressured them both to resign in 1942, and led to the appointment of James Landis, commissioner of the SEC, who created a semi-military operation that involved grassroots citizen mobilization, including planting Victory Gardens and building the Civil Air Patrol. It was the largest volunteer program in World War II America.\"--Provided by publisher.
How do people attempt to integrate the management of their paper and electronic documents?
2014
One of the issues with maintaining information in both paper and electronic form is keeping the two organisational systems consistent. For example, Office 8 participant noted: \"if everything's been done right they should match up pretty well, and hopefully what you've got in paper form you should have in the system. But sometimes that doesn't happen\".
