Abstract-This study aims to objectively evaluate the offensive performance of Major League Baseball players. We analyzed offensive statistics for the 2023 season, focusing on the top 30 players in the American League by batting average. Principal component analysis was conducted to reduce the number of parameters and summarize key aspects of batting performance. The first and second principal components effectively captured players' overall abilities. Scatter plots of these components also clearly illustrated distinct player characteristics. Notably, Shohei Ohtani's scores differed markedly from those of other players, indicating his exceptional performance even when assessed solely on 2023 batting data.

Two highlights in this issue are Judge Frank Bailey's fascinating interview of Justice Alan Page, former NFL player for the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears turned Minnesota Supreme Court justice, and Judge Dwayne Woodruff's personal journey playing college football and professional football and as an attorney and judge. Law clerks in the Judicial Clerkship Program are encouraged by participating judges to write articles.

Ichiro, Ohtani, and the New Era for Japan-U.S. Baseball Diplomacy
2024
The Major League Baseball heroics of Japanese baseball players such as Ichiro Suzuki and Shohei Ohtani represent the culmination of decades of pan-Pacific sporting exchange, a phenomenon that has engaged athletes, coaches, and sporting fans across North America, Asia, and the world. This transnational narrative of binational professional mobility and sporting diplomacy has also served as a touchstone for players from the United States who have made successful careers of their own in Japan, and specifically Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). The list of expatriate players who have starred in Japan includes Randy Bass, Greg “Boomer” Wells, Wally Yonamine, and Karl “Tuffy” Rhodes. The two-way flow of baseball between Japan and the United States, going back over a century and a half, is marked by the individual stories of American and Japanese players who trailblazed their playing careers overseas, as well as contemporary touchstones like the World Baseball Classic, which has transformed the way the sport is followed and understood globally.
