Facilitating Organization Development Interventions
2025
Facilitating Organization Development Interventions: Hands-on Experiences Using Case Studies, Role-Play Simulations, and Games is a dynamic and interactive book designed to bring Organization Development (OD) interventions to life through experiential learning. Each chapter presents a \"scene\" centered around a realistic case story. Learners first engage individually, conducting a browser search of a topic and then reading and analyzing a realistic case story to develop their initial insights. Next, they collaborate in breakout teams to answer thought-provoking questions, encouraging critical thinking and team-based problem-solving. The learning experience deepens during a debrief session, where teams reflect on their answers and share perspectives. Learners then step into action, role-playing the case story to practice decision-making and communication in a simulated OD intervention scenario. After the role play, a debrief of the role play fosters reflection on the outcomes and lessons learned. Written by a very experienced OD researcher and instructor, this is a supplementary college text that can be paired with a major textbook in OD.

Regardless of the prevalence and value of change initiatives in contemporary organizations, these often face resistance by employees. This resistance is the outcome of change recipients’ cognitive and behavioral reactions towards change. To better understand the causes and effects of reactions to change, a holistic view of prior research is needed. Accordingly, we provide a systematic literature review on this topic. We categorize extant research into four major and several subcategories: micro and macro reactions. We analyze the essential characteristics of the emerging field of change reactions along research issues and challenges, benefits of (even negative) reactions, managerial implications, and propose future research opportunities.

by
Bonnie Clipper
in
MEDICAL
2023
The global healthcare ecosystem is in chaos, caught in the convergence of pandemic-induced disruption, residual inequities, burnout, and turnover. Nurse leaders can either succumb to the churn or spot—and seize—a rare opportunity for true transfor¬mation. They must thoughtfully consider all aspects of their traditional roles and tack¬le trigger topics such as staffing, schedul¬ing, value-based care, outcome tracking, and more. Informed, empowered nurses can re-envision roles, integrate technolo¬gies, and develop new models to deliver the highest level of patient care. The Innovation Handbook is a pragmatic guide and toolkit that seeks to enlighten nurse leaders as they evolve through the current crisis. Author Bonnie Clipper explains concepts and equips nurses with a knowledge foundation that enhances their innovation skill set, spurs ideas and creativity, and challenges them to think differently and apply new concepts. On the cusp of a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a better future for nursing and healthcare, this book gives nurses the tools to meet the moment!

Organizational scholars have shown a growing interest in drawing on the philosophy of Pragmatism to address contemporary problems and theoretical questions. We elucidate Pragmatism's core ideas and show their uniqueness and relevance to the field. We present Pragmatism as a problem-solving philosophy that builds on a rich and behaviorally plausible model of human nature, views reality in terms of processes and relations, and highlights the interplay of meaning and action. We demonstrate how Pragmatist ideas can help transcend the perennial problem of agency and structure and illustrate how these ideas might contribute to one specific domain of research on categories and categorization. More generally, Pragmatism is well suited to understanding the contemporary challenges of change and complexity especially as they play out across multiple levels of analysis. We argue that Pragmatism provides a \"third way\" between rational and structural approaches and represents a living school of organization theory in its own right.
